Look! It's an FO!
Did I say I wanted to have these done by Stitches? Well, I was only a month late or so. The Stitches thing didn't happen because I was, well, getting ready for Stitches. Then after Stitches, I wanted mindless. Mindless, I tell you. Not that these socks weren't pretty mindless at that point, but at any rate, they are done and I love them! Now I just need to find the right mini-skirt to go with them :).
About these socks: These socks are made from my handspun superwash merino from a Blue Moon Fiber Arts Sheep 2 Shoe kit in Rooster Rock. This represents about 5 oz of the yarn, so there is still a good 3 oz left for me to make something else. The pattern is my own, a simple 3x3 ribbing pattern with an eye of partridge heel.
I'll get better pictures later -- there's not much sun out this morning anyway.
Holy cow--how long are those things? They look like they reach up to your chin! Wonderful job. They look cozy and yummy and nice.
Posted by: chemgrrl at March 20, 2007 9:20 AMWow! Really spectacular! Everyone will want to make knee high socks now. I love the way the striping turned out.
Posted by: Pauline at March 20, 2007 9:27 AMThose are fantastic! And a real testament to your spinning! Love them!
Posted by: Lori at March 20, 2007 9:30 AMthose are amazing! and that they are from your handspun is even more amazing! i love how they don't match!!! funny how if you look at the socks seperately they almost look like two completely different colorways!
Posted by: stacey at March 20, 2007 9:57 AMThose are some fabulous looking knee socks, babe! Totally hot.
Posted by: Nathania at March 20, 2007 10:04 AMYour legs look 10 miles long in that pic!! Gorgeous socks, I love them!
Posted by: Teenuh at March 20, 2007 10:09 AMHoly cats! Knee socks plus 3 oz left over? You have set a very high bar for us Sheep 2 Shoe newbies! Beautiful work, girl!
Posted by: spinnity at March 20, 2007 10:16 AMI want to spin just like you! My sheep2shoe kit is on order. Hopefully I'll be able to spin sock weight yarn by the time it arrives.
Posted by: Janice at March 20, 2007 10:27 AMThose are fantastic! With 3 oz left, you've almost certainly got enough for another pair of socks, just with a shorter cuff.
I am just imagining you wearing those with your Birk's and a denim mini-skirt. Awesome sight! They really do look great though. How many miles of handspun is that I wonder?
Posted by: Cindy at March 20, 2007 11:53 AMAs someone who loves her handspun, handknit socks, YOU ROCK!!! or was it rooster rock?
Posted by: [no author] at March 20, 2007 12:10 PMThat is some handiwork to be proud of. You should save a little of the left overs so you can repair the foot or heel when it wears out.
Posted by: LaurieM at March 20, 2007 12:16 PMhot mamasita!!! :) they're so purdy! i HEART these.
Posted by: hoochie hannah at March 20, 2007 12:37 PMOh they are bee-yoo-tee-full! And you know you are a truly dedicated knitter when you go shopping to match your knitwear.
Posted by: Opal at March 20, 2007 1:49 PMOh!! They are fabulous! A cute lil tartan mini, that's what you need. Yes, I stand by that. Firmly. hehe
Posted by: shadkitty at March 20, 2007 1:55 PMBeautiful! My problem with kneehighs is picking the right shoes. So far the only pair that works for showing them off is some brown wedge mary-janes. You'll have to take a picture of your socks with footwear for us.
Posted by: Frith at March 20, 2007 6:27 PMYou are spin-spiring. Your spinning appears so perfectly even! The socks look great. The angle makes them look like thigh highs instead of knee highs. Very nice.
Posted by: DaFawnz at March 20, 2007 11:55 PMso fabulous!!! Really, the pictures don't do those justice.
Posted by: Juls at March 21, 2007 6:54 AMAwesome! Handknit, handspun kneehigh socks...it doesn't get any better than that.
Posted by: Karen at March 21, 2007 8:28 AMOh they are so pretty all together like that! you should wear them to boba! ;^)
Posted by: Jillyb at March 21, 2007 7:48 PMLove the socks! What size needle did you use? How long did they take you? I have never made knee high socks before...how do you know how to adjust for the size of the calf? I know that is probably a stupid question but non the less I don't know how to.
