For about a month or so leading up to Stitches West, I took very little time for spinning. If I was at home with "leisure" time, it needed to be spent getting ready for Stitches. So it has been very fun for me to get a bit of time to spin.
I showed you the Yarn Wench singles (some of them) the other day. I needed to start and finish a quick spinning project, so I did. 4 oz. of Yarn Wench domestic wool in Glowing Ember. The finished yarn is about 16 w.p.i. A nice 2-ply sock weight.
As always, you can click on the images to see them bigger or to view my Flickr photos. There are a few more pics of the yarn there.
Oh, and I also started working on the Interlacements beaded scarf kit. I really wanted some mindless knitting, and garter stitch fits that bill:
Simple but pretty. The perfect relaxing project. This is my at-home project, and my knee-high sock is my travel knitting. I swear, those socks will be done someday soon!
so pretty.. so pretty.. mindless knitting is fantastico!!

Posted by: hannah at March 5, 2007 11:27 PMI love that yarn! But you must tell us where we can get the sock patterns from stitches west - if we weren't able to make it!
Posted by: Nicole at March 6, 2007 5:03 AMDitto Nicole's thoughts -- I'm so broke I'm eating ramen, but I'd find some $$ to buy at least one of those sock patterns.
[runs off to rummage in sofa cushions] :)
Posted by: Janice in GA at March 6, 2007 5:21 AMI love the scarf, i've been working on mine occasionally since last fall. I've got almost as much as you do! I love the contrast of the beads, I went with a dark yarn and blue beads, so it's more the shiny that makes them stand out.
Posted by: Sarah at March 6, 2007 6:08 AMmore great spinning! that scarf is really interesting - the beads add a bit of bling to it!
Posted by: stacey at March 6, 2007 6:15 AMThe spinning looks great and I love the scarf. I'll have to make one of those at some point. Great looking knits that are simple and mindless are priceless.
Posted by: hillary at March 6, 2007 6:22 AMOkay, serious question here. How long does it take to spin enough yarn for a pair of socks? You say, "quick" but I am curious as to what that means in spinning time.
Oh yeah, "looks great! Pretty, pretty!" ;)
That's so beautiful! I can't wait until I can spin sock yarn. Seriously.
You know, I always thought that I wouldn't knit scarves. Just because I tend to get bored easily. But that is SO pretty. I think I might just have to.
Posted by: shadkitty at March 6, 2007 10:29 AMThe beaded scarf is breathtaking! Those beads really make the yarn pop.
Posted by: Opal at March 6, 2007 12:59 PMIt was really nice meeting you both at your stitches booth although my friends will never let me live down confusing Cookie with Eunny (yes, I actually went and told them -silly me).
You'll have to post pics of your progress on the socks as I can't wait to start knitting Cookie's knee socks.
Posted by: erin at March 6, 2007 1:56 PMThe color combination of those beads with that yarn is brilliant!!! Mindless knitting or not, the finished scarf will be spectacular!
Your spinning is beautiful. You are one of the spinners who inspired me to give it a try. I am now quite addicted!
Posted by: Kirsten at March 6, 2007 2:34 PMPretty yarn!
I want to know--no, strike that--I NEED to know how to spin singles thin enough for sock yarn. Is the answer just practice practice practice? Maybe watching you on Saturday will enlighten me.
Posted by: Janice at March 6, 2007 3:28 PMBeautiful yarn! Such a lovely warm color. I like the scarf. The bead color and finish go really well with the yarn.
Posted by: Brenda at March 6, 2007 4:58 PMWho cares about mindless knitting when it looks that good!
That glowing embers is stunning!
Posted by: Schrodinger at March 6, 2007 8:45 PMHi Cookie :)
I'll love to knit your Twisted Flower sock pattern for my socks exchange, Swapetines. Could you tell me how can i buy it?
Thanks
Pilar
Oh man, I so wish I would have been paying attention at FTA that those scarf kits were on sale! Those colors are so gorgeous!
And I love the handspun yarn. That is a lovely color!
Posted by: Teenuh at March 7, 2007 2:13 PMWow! That scarf is awesome. Not only is the color wonderful but the beads add so my groovy texture. I've yet to knit with beads but this sure looks like inspiration.
Posted by: Felicia at March 8, 2007 7:49 AMSo pretty! I love the niddy-noddy length shots. It's such beautiful yarn! Yum yum yum.
