Is this thing on? Wow, it's been a while since I last blogged! It was just as much fun for me (maybe more?) to see all of Cookie's socks on display on the blog each day ... aren't they all amazing?
It's kind of hard to come back down to "regularly scheduled blogging", but it seems that it will have to happen, so I thought I'd give it a try...
But first. Cookie gave her thank you speech and there are some people I need to thank in addition to the ones she mentioned.
You know who I love? All the BobaKnitters. Every last one of y'all that was a part of the booth, stopped by the booth, helped in the booth, gave support in the weeks leading up to Stitches, found a model for the Avery pattern (thanks to Alison too!), every last one of you BobaKnitters. I *heart* BobaKnit. Hannah, can I get a tshirt that says that?
Also, I need to thank Lori. I don't know if you're ready for this story, everyone. Lori knit me a sample Sarcelle out of the Zephyr laceweight so folks could see how it looked. And you know what happened? It got lost somewhere along its way to me. It makes me so sad for her to think of it. I'm still trying to figure out what I can do to help make it up to her!
Oh dear, this is longer than I meant it to be. Oh well. Thanks to Buffy and Don from Shelridge Farm who are just all around awesome, and it was a pleasure to use their yarn in my Avery pattern and kits. Oh, and how cute was Buffy when I was buying from yarn from her -- "Wait. Let me get a look at this so when people start calling me saying they saw it on your blog, I'll know what I need to do make it again."
Last, but certainly not least, I need to thank Cookie. People, you have no idea how calm she remained through all of Stitches. And also how much she helped me when she had enough stuff of her own to deal with. Maybe she was just numb from lack of sleep, but there were several times that she probably should have killed me, but she didn't. Thanks.
Ok, that's it. Seriously, back to normal blogging.
I would show you my Stitches haul, but everything is still in the trunk of the car.
So instead I'll catch you up on my spinning. I have finished 3 bobbins of the Sheep 2 Shoe kit (from http://www.bluemoonfiberarts.com/, mostly colorway Lucy [I also got some darker stuff that is similar to Lucy, but darker], superwash merino). This is going to be for Cookie.
There was actually sunlight this morning, so I took pictures quickly. The above shot cracks me up for some reason. Those bobbins look very important on their lazy kate somehow.
I know the singles in the foreground are a little hard to see, but I wanted a pic where you could see the light vs. dark Lucy blues:
The dark is in the background, the light in the foreground. I'm excited to see this all plyed up!
As excited as I am to see it plyed up, I needed a break from that project. So for the first time ever, I started a second spinning project -- I have to this point been very monogamous with my spinning. But I had to. I spun up half of a Yarn Wench roving (Glowing Ember colorway, domestic wool):
Mmm, back to my regularly scheduled spinning. It's good.
I feel some Britney coming on! It just gets worse, the more I hear about the lost Sarcelle. Ugh, Fedex.
. . .seriously, why do I always lose my typekey identity for posting?
Posted by: Dana at March 1, 2007 12:26 AMI can't believe I'm only the second comment. That Lucy looks gorgeous! It'll look awesome when it's plied. Of course, the red looks pretty too. It reminds me of candy for some reason.
I have to ask, how long have you been spinning?
Posted by: shadkitty at March 1, 2007 6:17 AMeveryone did such an amazing job! all the pictures and accounts of the booth I've seen on line are amazing!
the spinning is so pretty - Lucy has to be one of my favorite colors from BMFA - but, that Embers is pretty darn nice too!
Posted by: stacey at March 1, 2007 7:05 AMI am DYING to purchase some of the sock patterns but I can't seem to figure out how! Twisted Flower, Rhiannon, German Stocking, Millicent, Thelonius, Mona
thank you! Anna
Posted by: Anna at March 1, 2007 9:22 AMLove your study of Lucy blues! I really enjoyed seeing all of Cookie's socks! Just amazing.
Posted by: KC at March 1, 2007 9:36 AMThe spinning looks great Kristi and is probably a great way to recover from Stitches. It was so fun seeing your booth crowded all weekend! Re; the yarnwench, it is surprising to see how the colors change and merge from roving to plied yarn. It looks different than I might have thought, VERY nice!
Posted by: Cindy at March 1, 2007 10:17 AMI was thrilled to see your booth. You all were so amazing to put that together and get the Co-op going and I could NOT believe how calm you were when you said the yarn for your kits was arriving on the first morning of Stitches. Yikes! Love the Lucy. I bought 2 skeins in a nearly identical colorway from Brooks farm. Yum.
Posted by: Juls at March 1, 2007 10:44 AMOh, Kristi, I've been feeling bad for you that you didn't get your sample! I know having my sample didn't make or break your weekend, but it's hard when you're counting on something to happen and get disappointed! I haven't heard about the package yet, but I'm sure I'll hear one way or the other soon. I've enjoyed seeing Cookie's sock patterns and your little baby sweater is so adorable! Will Cookie be offering the patterns online? We all want them!
Posted by: Lori at March 1, 2007 11:50 AMOh what beautiful spinning! I only wish I lived out west so I could have attended Stitches West and seen your booth in person!
Ahh but I may need to make a trip out West and search out a car that has a trunk full of yarn!
Posted by: Rebekah at March 1, 2007 12:29 PMI really wish I could have gone to Stitches, but I'm about 2k miles away and in the middle of an ocean. Maybe next year!
Your spinning is just gorgeous. I always get revved up to spin when I see what you're up to. So thanks for the inspiration.
Posted by: Opal at March 1, 2007 12:33 PMI'm so sorry the Sarcelle was lost. Maybe it will turn up (too late, I know) and you'll get it back.
Posted by: Kim at March 1, 2007 2:47 PMMissing knit?!! Send out the alert!!
Those singles are so gorgeous- I just adore that Lucy colorway... beautiful.
Posted by: frecklegirl jess at March 1, 2007 3:15 PMSounds like a really fun time! Love the colors you are spinning!
Posted by: AJ at March 3, 2007 11:10 AMI think the colors of the glowing ember wool is beautiful. The sheep to toe is really coming along isn't it?
Posted by: [no author] at March 3, 2007 2:36 PMLovely yarn....
Yarn Wench always has great stuff! I love that colorway.
Congrats on Stitches. It sounds like such fun. I wish I could have gone.
Holly
Okay, that's it. The *second* finals are over, I'm so breaking out my wheel and spinning until my fingers fall off.
Your plies look lovely.
