The new Knitty is out! When I saw Nathania's pattern I was totally freaked because of its awesomeness. You see, I had knit almost the exact same sock completely independently, and I immediately rushed over to Purlescence to show it off and pretend I'd just knit it in 5 hours. In fact, Mona was originally supposed to have the same stitch pattern as Queen of Cups, but I messed up the chart when I sent it to Jamie, so it ended up being different. I had originally knit the sock using BMFA STR in Puck's Mischief to SUBMIT TO KNITTY (!!!), but I wasn't so sure about the pooling so I sat on it. Here is the pooled version. The only differences are mine is knit from the top down with twisted rib and a twisted rib heel. And with a different yarn, of course.
Who knew that all these times I had seen Nathania and she was talking about her sock, and I was talking about my pooling sock, that we were knitting the same thing? But hey, great minds think alike.
Oh yes, and I have something awesome for Yarn Porn Friday. You should all be jealous because I have THE BEST YARN EVER. Hand spun by Kristi from a BMFA Sheep 2 Shoe kit. It's the bestest yarn ever. I'm actually thinking about knitting a sweater with it. Is that crazy?
And the obligatory close up shot:
And for those of you who are asking about the sock patterns, I'm working on the website. Sorry it's taking so long, but it should be up soon. It's taking a bit of time because I'm setting up a website separately from the blog, so I don't violate the Moveable Type license. The webhost we're using has had major issues for the past week and is planning more maintenance on Monday, so hopefully it'll be up on Tuesday.
Wow, Kristi did REALLY nice work with that yarn!
How funny is that?? And I must say, I yelped out loud when I got to the end of the issue and hadn't seen a Cookie pattern yet! (What, were you busy? Heh.) I'd even picked Nathania's out from the thumbnails and said, "There's the Cookie sock." I was stunned it wasn't yours, but I noticed the Purlescence connection. How completely wild. I'm looking forward to knitting her pattern...and to seeing your site!
Posted by: alyson at March 9, 2007 12:15 PMEager to see the new site as well, but take your time. We'll wait. :)
That yarn shore is purty! I think it would make a great sweater. Is there enough, though? Can't tell from the pics...
Posted by: chemgrrl at March 9, 2007 12:31 PMHow funny about the sock!!
Wow, Kristi's ne yarn is fantastic!
Posted by: Leah at March 9, 2007 12:45 PMMy first thought when I saw the Knitty sock, was "Hey she stole the leg!" But I saw that you had taken her head shot and figured there was some collaboration there.
Posted by: Sarah at March 9, 2007 1:05 PMThat Lucy yarn is fabulous! Kristi did an awesome job! And what a wonderful friend! I was so excited to look at Knitty and wonder what sock pattern would be yours! hee hee! But I will definitely be purchasing any and all patterns you put up next week!
Posted by: Lori at March 9, 2007 1:07 PMThe yarn so rocks! Love how it matches the blog.
And just to contaminate a Cookie post's comments - I'm leaving a message for Kristi, too: Gorgeous. Really Really Gorgeous job.
Posted by: freecia at March 9, 2007 1:11 PMThe yarn is BEAUTIFUL. Wow. I want to spin yarn like that. And when I saw the sock on Flickr, I thought, "Oh you did not just knit that!". lol Too funny. Great minds think alike, huh?
Posted by: Janice at March 9, 2007 1:13 PMGreat mind #2 here! You are the luckiest girl in the world to have that yarn. I'm so excited about it and can't wait to see what you knit with it. Tomorrow I'm gonna start spinning my own S2S kit. Hurray!
Posted by: Nathania at March 9, 2007 1:46 PMI'm glad to hear that the patterns are going to be available soon. I was disappointed not to see one of your socks in the new knitty; however, I consoled myself with the possibility that your new sock patterns might become available soon. Don't let me suffer cookie sock withdrawl, aka CSW!
Posted by: moirae at March 9, 2007 2:28 PMI had a somewhat similar experience. I started knitting a sock I was designing Wednesday night, from a pattern I'd been thinking of for a while -- only to discover when I saw the new Knitty that someone else had published almost an identical pattern! Great minds think alike, I guess.
By the way, that yarn is amazing. What exactly does one have to do for Kristi to get her to spin one up yarn like that?
Posted by: Sarah at March 9, 2007 3:08 PMOh how beautiful is that yarn. That would make a gorgeous sweater!!
And I totally love that sock. It is gorgeous pooling and all! That is very amusing that it is so similar to Nathania's sock. I am of course empathetic to pooling socks because my monkey socks have ginormous pooling!
Posted by: Teenuh at March 9, 2007 3:24 PMI'm looking forward to Tuesday so I can check out the site.
Posted by: Vera at March 9, 2007 4:20 PMThat yarn is positively beautiful!
I'm so excited for Tuesday, you can be sure I'll be buying Twisted Flowers!

Posted by: stacey at March 9, 2007 5:17 PMNot crazy at all! Who'd want to hide that gorgeous yarn in a shoe?!?!?
Posted by: reluctantmango at March 9, 2007 6:33 PMWow that yarn that Kristi spun is gorgeous. You are a lucky woman!!
I'm looking forward to seeing your new website.
The socks, yours and Nathania's are beautiful!
That is very probably the most beautiful yarn I have ever seen!

Posted by: Abigail at March 9, 2007 10:16 PMKristi it's fabulous yarn. I love the way the colours came together!
Cookie you have answered a few prayers there. I'm so looking forward to the new site. I just hope we don't crash it with the demand for your patterns. :D Is Kristi selling that yarn? ;) :)

Posted by: Lisa at March 10, 2007 5:07 AMWowee! That is one amazing skein of yarn. And how funny about the coincidence!
Posted by: anushka at March 10, 2007 6:21 AMthat yarn is absolutely delicious and a sweater would be beautiful (do you have enough?)
i CANNOT WAIT for the site....congrats on its impending birth!
Posted by: kate at March 10, 2007 9:18 AMThat is so funny! I did a double take when I saw Knitty this week because I almost bought Mona a bunch of times at Stitches (though I did get Flicker & Thelonious)! Weird coincidence.
Posted by: Suzie at March 10, 2007 10:07 AMDear Cookie,
I don't know why everyone else seems to have figured this out and knit their socks, but I'm really stumped.
I've knit the set-up round and knit tbl the first stitch onto the needle behind the first needle. Now I have a yo and then k2tog tbl. Since the first stitch which I moved to the last needle was a purl stitch, this means that I have now knit a knit stitch and a purl stitch together, in that order. Now I come to another knit stitch. The chart says to purl it, but I can tell that can't be correct. How do I proceed?
Thanks so much in advance.
Best,
Katie
I love that yarn Kristi made for you. I've been ogling it forever. It looks even better plied.
Posted by: shadkitty at March 10, 2007 7:00 PMKristi certainly did an excellent job with that yarn.

Posted by: kris at March 11, 2007 9:17 AMI thought the Q of C socks looked a bit like the ones you had posted - I even went back to the photos to compare! But yours were different in some way I couldn't really see....too funny...weird conincidence! The sheep 2 shoe yarn is amazing!!!!!!!
Posted by: stacey at March 12, 2007 7:48 AMKristi can really work that spinning wheel. The yarn is just gorgeous.
It's so funny that you and Nathania came up with such similar patterns. GMTA indeed!
Posted by: Opal at March 12, 2007 3:00 PMthe sock story is really funny! when do you anticipate your website being ready? You have lovely taste in yarn - those two different verigated yarns are gorgeous!
