Holy crap, when I saw my blog folder I thought "&@(%ING SPAMMERS SUCK!" But then I realized they were *real* comments, and I was completely flabbergasted. Thanks everybody, seriously. Who knew a sock could be such a hit? For those of you who asked about the pattern, I will set up an online store after Stitches, and you'll be able to order all the patterns that are on sale at Stitches. I only plan to keep the store open for as long as I have yarn because I don't really want to run an online store (I've seen other people do it, it's not easy), except to sell off the Stitches leftovers. And before I hear cries of "Oh no, what if the yarn sells out?!" Trust me. It won't. I way over-ordered. Way.
The patterns will be available at Stitches without yarn, i.e. not kits. The format for the online store might be different, I dunno. The reason I'm being non-commital about the sale of the patterns is because I do at some point want to write up a sock book, and I'm not sure if I will include those patterns or not, and what that might entail.
To tide you over in the mean time, you might want to check out Titania's Revenge which is now available through Blue Moon's website.
Onto other fun things. Cara from January One visited the Bay Area over the weekend, so it was a great excuse for local knitters to band together. I suck at photographing people, so I didn't. I'm a bad blogger, I admit it! But luckily, Nathania had her camera and shot a picture of us after dinner, cider and crepes. I thought we were supposed to make crazy faces, but I guess I was the only one.
On Saturday, Cara, Carolyn, Kristi and I went on a little yarn crawl at Full Thread Ahead, Uncommon Threads, and Purlescence. Hollis showed us the secret room at Full Thread Ahead where we pillaged her Fleece Artist yarn. It was evil, all that temptation! I foolishly thought I could get away on a yarn crawl without buying any yarn (ha!) but instead came away with this beaut:
It is Fleece Artist Sea Wool. 70% wool, 30% seacell. 100% gorgeous. I'm curious to see how it knits up. (Sorry for the weird picture. It was taken in the dark with 10 second exposure.)
Cara was awesome. I love that I have yet to be disappointed by meeting a knitblogger in real life. And just wait till you see the yarn she got. Carolyn got some fabulous yarn too, and I got to see her pillow case in progress. It's even better in real life than in the pictures!
And stay tuned. More Stitches sneak peaks coming up!
Oh, you are going to LOVE Sea Wool. I just knit up a pair with it, it's so nice. I'm definitely buying more.
Posted by: Lisa at February 12, 2007 5:38 PMI have my eye on some cosmic dawn sea wool. It is so pretty!
Posted by: freecia at February 12, 2007 6:49 PMHey, i gotta say, i just love the sock pattern, i can't live without making them! BUT..... I'm a NZer and I can't come all that way to go to Stitches.... and i'm scared I'll miss out - is there any way you could send me the pattern if I do a credit card transaction online somehow?
Posted by: Cindy at February 12, 2007 7:59 PMAaaauughhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please don't post such gorgeous eye candy for us to if the only place you're going to sell the patterns is Stitches W. That's torture of the worst kind for a sockloving knitter! I would happily buy any book of yours, but please, please, please, please, please, please sell the pattern for your Twisted Flower sock *here* too.
Posted by: judith at February 12, 2007 8:49 PMHi K&C. Love, love, love your blog, and am a devoted fan.
Are your e-mails posted on here anywhere? I had some spinning questions and wanted a little advice, if K has the time. Otherwise, no big deal. It's so nice to see a Bay Area blog so popular, too! Plus, you two inspired me to drive the hour and some to Sunnyvale to meet the good girls at Purlescence. I am in love with that shop, too. Awesome selection of fiber, and nice ladies to boot. Love their Claudia and Malabrigo yarns. Even got the Colinette sock yarn on your recommendations.
Thanks! Please feel free to e-mail me re: your e-mail.
Posted by: Alison at February 13, 2007 2:04 AMI'll jump on the bandwagon a little late and say that I think your latest pattern is truly stunning! It sort of scares me looking at it a bit though, could I trust myself to attempt something meant to be so gorgeous?
Posted by: Nicola at February 13, 2007 2:17 AMI'm so happy to hear that you'll be making the pattern available to those of us who can't make it to Stitches. I'll be keeping my eye out for your online store.
That Sea Wool looks like some gorgeous stuff. What does it feel like? I wish I could reach through the internet and give that skein a squeeze!
Posted by: whitney at February 13, 2007 4:48 AMI'm so head over heels (no pun intended, really!) in love with that last Stitches preview you posted that I have ordered my friend who will be attending to get me that pattern and send it to me ASAP. You amaze me.
That Sea Wool? Gorgeous. I've gotta get me some of that.
Posted by: Sarah at February 13, 2007 5:04 AMThe SeaWool is gorgeous! As a proud Canadian, I can't get enough Fleece Artist yarns -- and this new one is a real winner!
Thanks for letting us know about the Titania's Revenge being available... SOLD!
Happy Knitting!
Posted by: Meghan at February 13, 2007 6:39 AMMmmm... yarn crawl. My favorite! I love your new pattern. The yarn color and pattern go together so well. Way to go! Another wonderful sock creation!
Posted by: Elinor at February 13, 2007 6:57 AMA yarn crawl with some of my favorite bloggers, what fun!! So jealous!
Thanks for making Titania'r Revenge available. I've loved that pattern since you first gave us a peek at it many months back.
Please, pretty please, let us buy the pattern from you. I *need* to make the socks. Really. I don't think you understand.
All I saw in this post was the idea for a book - YES!!!!!! (kindly speed it along as much as possible so your fans won't have to agonize too long - I realize that it's a stressful process for you but us....:)
Posted by: Terry at February 13, 2007 10:09 AMplease, please, PUH-LEASE write a sock book, Cookie! Your patterns are so easy to follow, and let me tell you, I love that I can just "trust Cookie"--if I don't do exactly what the pattern says, I know it's a mistake! I can trust what you say to be right.
Posted by: Shannon at February 13, 2007 11:59 AMI love the picture! I could actually take one almost exactly like that, but with a prosthetic leg instead. I've been making the Pomatomus socks and love them! My knit group was loved the picture on those too.
Posted by: Jodie at February 13, 2007 12:30 PMHey, if you ever want a real one legged person with a real fake leg for sock photo shoot, you should look me up. I'll even knit the socks. LOL
Posted by: TheAmpuT at February 14, 2007 8:09 AMI absolutely LOVE your sock patterns! If you ever do write a sock book, I will buy it, even if it costs $100!
