yarn pr0n friday

There's been some stash enhancement I've been holding back from you guys. You didn't really think I left Blue Moon Fiber Arts last month without any new yarn, did you? That would be silly!

Socks That Rock in Harlotty colorway. Love love love it.

Socks That Rock Lightweight in Harlotty

There was also an STR lightweight enhancement. Aren't these colors awesome? From left to right: Puck's Mischief, Henpecked, Bleeding Hearts, Rooster Rock, and Black Onyx.

There's more, but I'd have to kill you if I showed it to you, and we don't want that.

I didn't say much about what happened in Burbank/LA after the Knitty Gritty taping. I had dinner with Lily Chin and my friend Neil. Neil's an IP lawyer, so the conversation was pretty interesting and lively. Being the bad blogger that I am, I don't have pictures (okay, admission here - I suck at photographing people, so I usually don't). But I do have pictures of some yarn I got from Lily. These are Harlem and Nolita, and a little swatch I started.

Lily Chin Yarns

The Knitty Gritty folks also gave each of the designers a little yarn package. I think they were color themed, and this one is definitely autumnal. We have Tilli Tomas Asteroid in Burnt Orange, Louet Gems Sport Weight in Mustard, Blue Sky Cotton in brown (623), and Knit One Crochet Two Camelino in red (#256).

The hubby drove down Friday night, and we spent the rest of the weekend at Neil's place in LA. Highlights included: spotting Ian Ziering eating lunch in the booth right behind me, seeing Volver, meeting up with Wendy for a yummy dinner at Mexico City, and discovering that Neil lives within walking distance of Suss. Good times, good times.

Since then, I have finished these socks. I may have said this before, but I don't think I can say it enough. I LOVE this color. Fleece Artist merino sock yarn, which Polly noted might be in the Rainforest colorway. See more of socks just like this here.

I also finished some of my step-outs, so I now have TWO PAIRS of these socks. Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Heavy Weight in Rose Quartz. One pair is dirty because they were worn on the set.

Knitty Gritty socks - 2 pairs!

This sock was started a while back as an Xmas present, and I finally grafted the toe. It is Meilenweit Mega Boots Stretch in I think color 705, but I'm not sure. I like the colors, but I don't particularly like knitting the yarn. Still another one to go.

Kristi and I went to Purlescence Yarns last night. I hadn't been there in WEEKS, and boy did they have a lot of new stuff. I fondled some Jitterbug, the new Colinette sock yarn, and immediately fell in love with Castagna. Within minutes it was wound and in my hands for knitting pleasure. Here's a picture with a strange prop. I have a pair of bobble headed cats from my cousins for our wedding present.

Monkey in progress on a cat

Close-up. I'm knitting the Monkey pattern from Knitty. What a great pattern! :-)

And before you think I'm leading an absurdly decadent lifestyle, Kristi and I have something up our sleeves to counter that. Oh yeah, and I live in a shit hole. I would show you pictures, but it's embarrassingly bad. The current problem (there are always problems) is that what we previously thought was a patch of mold in the bathroom was actually a crapload of insect eggs that have hatched and spread nasty little dying flies all over our bathtub. I haven't showered in a couple days. Ugh.

Oh yeah, and the blog has been having lots of issues lately. The server it's on needs a hardware upgrade, and it's taking forever. Kristi and I will be moving the blog over to another server soon. Sorry about that.

Nice Yarn Pr0n Friday! I especially love those Fleece Artist socks. Ever since I saw that color on Stephanie's site I've been smitten.

And insect eggs in the shower? That sucks! I thought I had it bad with the tiny ants that invade my pantry...

Wow, look at all those pretty socks. My feet are so jealous.

I won't even tell you what I did with some of my step-outs....

GREAT socks.
W0nd3rful yarn.
Incredibly disgusting bug story.

All the things I look for in a Cookie post. Er, wait a minute...

Hey... hope you get your shower back soon... very bad news .

Love those socks; can't wait to try them.

I'm not sure I'd rather have your bugs in the tub than my snake (non-endangered species thankfully) and mouse (not at the same time).

And in case everyone has figured it out by now, Nathania & company got Harlotty in their BMFA shipment. I'm now a happy owner of my own skein plus a few more.

(who's trying to decide which of her STR skeins gets to be the Monkey pattern)

Love the pr0n! Awesome yarns there! I'm knitting with the BMFA heavyweight (Jingle Bell Rock) right now..it's very interesting, I like it!..oh and the Castagna..that is perfect for the Monkey socks, and since I have it also and really like it so far (thanks for the preview!)..hmmm...wonder if the designer would mind a copycat sock? ;)

I love the way the colors change on that red and brown sock!

That insect egg story needed a warning. YUCK!

I'm in the middle of Monkey and I'm loving it! I'm using Steinbach Wolle Strapaz Cotton Effekt #63483, self-striping with gold, brown, grey and mauve. It's turning out fantastic. Too bad it's a designated Xmas gift. Guess I'll just have to wait to make them for myself. That is some awesome Pr0n you have there. Sorry about the bugs.

I do like that Rainforest. I ended up getting the Woodland from Fleece Artist which is also super lovely. Good luck with the kits and "ewwww" about the dying bugs. Gross.

Temptress. You are such a temptress. Sock Yarn Siren.

You have the coolest yarns! You're like the Neiman Marcus of blogville! I've loved that Fleese Artist since the first sock!

Well I'm J.E.A.L.O.U.S of all your sock yarn! Gorgeous stuff going on! I hope to get your Monkey pattern done one day! I've actually gotten past the heel and gusset on my first sock, so now I can get to the good stuff!

Posted by: AJ at December 16, 2006 11:06 PM

*love* the monkey pattern. I cast on for it the day it came out! Unfortunately it's been set aside for holiday knitting....booo....

Posted by: nichole at December 17, 2006 7:43 AM

P.S. I'm using Lorna's Laces shepherd sock yarn in gold hill. Looks beautiful in the pattern.

Posted by: nichole at December 17, 2006 7:46 AM

hey, how'd you like burbank? i grew up there - 5th through 12th grade, and my family still lives about 5 min from the airport. like how EVERY BUILDING is painted the same color? i think it's called "barf".

;)

So many great sock yarns - I have the Rose Quartz colorway as well, and haven't decided what to do with it - it is so pretty! Love the Collinette - I haven't seen too many about the blogs as of yet, but that colorway is amazing! (looks like it isn't pooling either) I wonder if the little gift packs they give you are leftovers from projects they have people knit? Seems like an odd assortment....

Posted by: stacey at December 18, 2006 6:58 AM

Could that Fleece Artist colorway be Woodland?

Posted by: Katinka at December 18, 2006 10:12 AM

I love the yarns - especially the STR Bleeding Hearts and that Tilli Tomas is wonderful. Just my color. What are you going to do with it?

Posted by: Jo at December 18, 2006 1:10 PM

You make me sick. lol So does the bug story....

I just picked up some of that Blue Sky Cotton. It feels so nice, I can't wait to knit it up.

I just finished my first in a pair of your monkey socks - great pattern!

For the record, the pattern works great on #2's with Knitpicks Wool of the Andes, if you have size 10ish feet like mine.

Oh my god, I'm so behind the times! Love the socks for Knitty Gritty -- did not even know you had gone for a taping. What a mover & shaker! Yarn pr0n update is also nice.. I feel very isolated from my yarn in its protecto stash ziplocs. Nice to see warm, glowy yarn photos.
