I told myself that I wouldn't start spinning anything new until all holiday projects are done. Well, you know, one thing led to another, and this roving ...
... just popped out of the bag o' fiber stash (Hooray to huge ziploc storage bags), into my hands, and started onto the wheel:
The fiber is merino from the Yarn Wench, who I think has an amazing eye for color. Or maybe our color tastes just coincide well? I told myself I would spin up some of her stuff before I can buy more. So far my conscience is actually forcing me to stick with that one.
I prepared the fiber like the Sheep 2 Shoe kit: I separated the one long piece of roving into 3 long pieces of roving (lengthwise), and am spinning each from the same end, and will be making a 3-ply sock yarn. So far I have spun up about half of it (so, 2 oz. or so).
Now that it's dry, I thought I'd share a pic of the Alpaca/Corriedale, which I have a full pound of! I haven't counted out the yardage yet. I'm not one to keep track of counting while winding on to the niddy-noddy, so I'll be going back to count the strands soon.
How are my holiday projects coming? Enh, luckily, as Cookie pointed out, there aren't too many of them.
Ha! The same thing happened to me, only my Christmas knitting was neglected in favor of a silk/merino blend from Kendig Cottage.
I love the colors in that roving too. You were doomed from the start!
Posted by: Grace at December 14, 2006 12:12 PMChristmas is far away. We have plenty of time. That's what I keep telling myself. Denial, denial, denial.
Posted by: Bunchkin at December 14, 2006 12:12 PMYeah, knitting has kinda turned me into a liar....I have good intentions though....I just can't seem to keep the promises I make to myself. ;-)
I love that purple color!
Don't you just hate it when yarn or in your case the roving just attacks you? Bad roving, bad, bad! ;o)
Posted by: Angelika at December 14, 2006 2:06 PMI have been trying to read your blog for days. It showed up in Bloglines but I couldn't get on the actual site. Anyway...glad it's now working!
The fiber does that at my house too. The more I try to ignore it, the more insistent it becomes. It's a beautiful colorway.
Posted by: Karen at December 14, 2006 2:58 PMThe roving is a gorgeous combination of colors! Those will be awesome socks.
Last night I finished my Christmas knitting. Did I go back to non-Christmas WIPs? Or did I cast-on two new projects? At least the new projects are small (mitts and socks).
Posted by: Brenda at December 14, 2006 4:02 PMI keep telling myself that I'm not going to get into spinning -- I already knit, sew, and cross-stitch -- but your work tempts me greatly! That is some seriously gorgeous fiber... :)
Posted by: Katinka at December 14, 2006 6:38 PMgosh, that is pretty. i wish fall wasn't ending so soon.
Posted by: al at December 14, 2006 10:21 PMI was so impressed with the way the roving you bought spun up, I bought a couple for myself. So thanks for enabling me! I guess it's time I learn how to do a 3 ply yarn.
Posted by: Opal at December 15, 2006 2:16 AMYou know, my stash yarn does the same - jumps out onto my lap, esp. when I'm in the middle of other knit projects. Gorgeous roving - her site is popular - lotsa pending sales!
Posted by: Terry at December 15, 2006 5:26 AMThat fibre and the yarn you've made are amazing. Are you going for a Noro-type long colour repeats, or a more mixed look?
Posted by: AmyP at December 15, 2006 6:44 AMLots of nice spinning to look at! The new fiber spins up beautifully! I love the long chunks of color.
A pound! That is a lot of yardage! Too bad you didn't have my yarn meter - probably easier than a niddy noddy to measure....
