I don't have the energy for a full on post, so let's just go with pictures. I said I was going to LA this weekend as a late birthday present for the hubby. I didn't exactly lie, but I didn't tell the whole truth either. There were other reasons for coming down.
The self-done manicure (yes I have a scar on my index finger, and if you look close at my ring finger I have a calous on the right side). And the professional hair cut from my new favorite hair stylist.
I knit 3 socks. Three!
It didn't stop there. More sock parts:
After numerous car issues ($2000 in repairs BEFORE it broke down on the highway and I had to get it towed), I bought a plane ticket and got to see somebody else's socks you might recognize:
I think she's knitting in this picture:
I hung out with a redhead. She's taller than me with heels on. I knew I should have worn my platform boots.
There was also lots of other cool stuff going on, like meeting Lisa (I have glasses envy!), Tricia Waddell, Wendy (Stephanie's personal make-up artist), Liz/Trish, Marnie and Stitchy McYarnPants, Lily Chin, and blogless Linda who knit these socks. I didn't really get to hang out with the knitsters on my episode much because they kept me busy before and after, so that was really too bad. They rocked though. They actually finished some socks!
Because I'm an idiot, I forgot to bring additional knitting (aside from the gazillion socks in progress that I wasn't supposed to knit on). So I begged Stephanie for some yarn, and she obliged. It is BEAUTIFUL. Wendy took us to dinner at a restaurant with awesome cheese (we all share the love of cheese and yarn), and I started winding it there.
We had a bitch of a time winding it though, and at some point we had human swifts going on in the car with winding and cursing. Doing this and driving through the hills made me turn a bit green I think, and I had fears of actually vomiting for the love of yarn, but then I stopped myself.
Last night after dinner, there was a conversation in the elevator where I learned that a Serenity/Firefly convention was going on in the hotel, and Adam Baldwin was there. This picture is for the hubby!
Oh right, and I have another pattern up at Knitty!
Hee, I'm printing out your knitty pattern as I type.
And wow! What a great list of who's who they're having guest on Knitty Gritty! I can't wait 'til all those eps are released.
Did they let you know when they think they'll show your ep?
Posted by: C. at December 8, 2006 10:37 AMThe new pattern is super cute! So are the shoes on the leg. Geez, I wish I got whatever channel it is that plays Knitty Gritty. I have never seen it, and it always sounds awesome. I love your new hairdo. Vicki Howell is so darn cute. Did she knit the sweater she's wearing? Haha. It's very pretty! Stephanie said Vicki is kind of short... is Stephanie just super tall?
Posted by: Crystal at December 8, 2006 10:44 AMYahoooooo! I'm glad you finally shared. Now e-mail me dammit! I want some details!
Posted by: scout at December 8, 2006 10:48 AMSo exciting! I am so happy for you! What an experience. Lisa Shobhana was telling me some about it - glad you got to meet her too. Love the new haircut. Can't wait to see these episodes!!

Posted by: Lisa at December 8, 2006 11:56 AMWhat fun to be on Knitty Gritty! I'll be looking for that segment to air. Just wanted to let you know how cool the Monkey pattern is. This is going to be big, I mean huge. Just watch. Is the Sheldrige gauge comparable to, say, Lorna's Laces or STR?
Posted by: Leslie at December 8, 2006 12:06 PMCongratulations on your television appearance and the Knitty pattern!
Posted by: Gina at December 8, 2006 12:13 PMKnitting and Firefly, two of my favorite!!
Also, I really like your sock patterns, even though I don't knit many socks. You are the sock diva.
Posted by: Lizbeth at December 8, 2006 12:14 PMWow, so jealous of you right now!
I love the new pattern, so want to knit it -- but I'm way behind on your patterns. (I should probably get through the mate to my first Pomatomus and a pair of Baudelaires first, right?)
Posted by: Sarah at December 8, 2006 12:19 PMGreat haircut!
I'll be looking for you on TV!
Love the new Knitty sock pattern!
Man, I was jealous I didn't have cable when I saw Stephanie's stepouts, but you're killing me here! :) Maybe I'll get lucky and find yall on youtube. Love the new pattern too!
Posted by: aija at December 8, 2006 12:56 PMIt was so great to meet you... the photos look amazing (almost as super as the socks looked in person)!
Hope you had a safe trip home and that we'll run into each other in "real" again soon.

I have yet to knit up Pomatomus (I know, unacceptable!!!) and now I need to find the time to knit up Monkey too!!!!!
Love the haircut!
Man, what an exciting trip. You were really busy there. By the way, I didn't think it was a scar at first, I thought it was the inprint of yarn on your fingers from all the knitting.
Posted by: Angelika at December 8, 2006 1:18 PMWell that is a fun adventure! The cut is very, very chic - love it! And me too, just printed the new Knitty sock pattern - thanks so much.

Posted by: Nanette at December 8, 2006 3:11 PMCookie A -
You are one mad sock designin' genius.
I have one pomotomus done, and the whole time I was knitting it, I just kept saying to myself "DAg!! That Cookie is the best sock designer around!!" "Wow! just look at this pattern it kicks so much ass I can't stand it!!" "I want to knit everything Cookie A has ever designed!!" "Cookie A is a knitting goddess!!!"
And today, as if you heard my ebulient praise, ANOTHER KICK-ASS Cookie A. sock pattern is on Knitty.com.

If you ever come up with a men's sock pattern that has a cool motif like all your others, I'd be all over that one. Just saying...I'll even send you the yarn to test knit it with :)
