During my Thanksgiving weekend, I stayed a little closer to home than Cookie did. That doesn't mean that I didn't do and see some fun things, though!
As I mentioned before, my parents were here for Thanksgiving. On Saturday, we went out to the Livermore valley to do a little wine tasting. We found some nice places, and the last place we stopped had a beautiful view, and some sheep! The picture below doesn't really capture it, but the lamb was very cute and springy, jumping all over the place.
On Monday, we took a quick trip to Gamble Gardens in Palo Alto and saw some neat plants. I really liked the Giant Fennel, and so did the second camo sock:
A giant succulent:
I thought this mulberry was really neat to see. All of the colors would make a nice yarn, I thought:
On Monday afternoon, we went to see "The Queen" at the local theater, and I got some knitting done. All that was left on the second camo sock after that was the toe and the afterthought heel. Now those are done. Done!
I should go see "Happy Feet" in these socks, because that's how my feet are feeling ...
Also, because we stayed closer to home, I even had time to work on spinning. So for Yarn Pr0n Friday, I give you a bit of the Alpaca/Corriedale blend I got from the Sanguine Gryphon's shop. I navajo plyed this, so it's a 3-ply, and is about worsted weight:
This is just a small bit on the niddy-noddy because I was navajo plying and I wasn't sure that I was liking the results, so I thought I was going to have to regroup. So I put the whole thing aside for a couple of days and came back and put it on the niddy-noddy. Lo and behold, I liked it! I plyed up the rest of that bobbin but still need to skein it and wash them. There's another 4 ounces waiting to be plyed, too!
Ooh, wine tasting. Wente brothers? I've been there a couple times, once for a wedding and the food and wine was great.

Posted by: Elinor at December 1, 2006 7:38 PMonce my boyfriend and i drove up to solano to see a wind farm, and its on a site occupied by sheep farms so there were tiny lambs everywhere...
i thought he was going to push me out of the truck and leave me there, i was squealing so much. they were unbearably cute!
Posted by: al at December 2, 2006 12:02 PMLove the photo close-ups of the plants. More so, love the sock yarn :) What a nice weekend, sometimes when you "get away" closer to home it's more enjoyable, more time to explore. Hmm, Livermore sounds nice too.
Posted by: Terry at December 2, 2006 12:14 PMYay spinning! The yarn looks nice! And I agree - Mulberry would make a great yarn.
