The plying is done, and one hank is hanging out to dry. The other will be soon. For those who are wondering, this roving was superwash merino from Blue Moon Fiber Arts in the Rooster Rock colorway, and it was packaged up as a "Sheep 2 Shoe" kit. The idea is to take the big length of roving and separate it lengthwise into 3 long strips. Then you spin each of those on to separate bobbins and then ply them together. I may not be the best separate-r (I was a little excited, even at the beginning), so there is a little bit left on 2 of the bobbins, not really that much.
Anyway, without further ado, I present my yarn:
Still on the bobbins, after being plyed:
A niddy-noddy shot:
Yarn!
It's hanging out to dry right now. The specs: The more full bobbin was about 570 yds and 5.5 oz. The other one was 280 yds, and is probably a little under 3 ounces. I forgot to weigh it before washing it.
Tomorrow I'll share pics of some fiber I just got, I think it deserves its own post. Also, the Sheep 2 Shoe kit deserved its own post!
Oh, also, my submission to Yarnival! was accepted, go check out Cara's great work on Yarnival!
Wow, look at you! That's amazing work Kristi, I'm in awe of you and your-baaaad-spinning-self. All the photos are great, but I love the niddy-noddy shot. Can't wait to see the socks.
Posted by: Janice at November 15, 2006 8:34 PMYour pictures ARE great! Pretty yarn. You're going to be famous with that needle story. ;^)
Posted by: Jill at November 15, 2006 9:15 PMYou and Cookie are going to ruin my keyboard. It has drool all over it.
Lovely photos of gorgeous yarn. Looks like there is enough for a shawl, if you're into variegated shawls. It'd make really awesome socks, too. Knee Highs!
I'm really looking forward to seeing it knit up. I want to see how it stripes.
Are you feeling any trepidation? I was just reading yesterday about a spinner who was not looking forward to knitting up her handspun into socks because she loved the yarn so much.
Posted by: LaurieM at November 16, 2006 4:10 AMWow...that is gorgeous! I am impressed that you have 3 ply sock weight too! That's awesome. I can't wait to see the socks you make with it.
Posted by: Karen at November 16, 2006 5:16 AMAmazing stuff. I love love love the colors! You did a wonderful job plying - it looks really even!

Posted by: Alyson at November 16, 2006 6:34 AMWow. I'm so impressed! I haven't tried a 3 ply yet, but I may now, after seeing your finished results.
Posted by: CJ at November 16, 2006 8:43 AMWow, that's a lot of yardage!! You can make at least two pairs of socks! And it's gorgeous, yay!
Posted by: Margit at November 16, 2006 9:01 AMBee-u-ti-ful! I LOVE IT! This makes me want to spin mine up right now. I even got a three-bobbin Lazy Kate just for this project... I can't wait to see how your socks knit up!
Posted by: kristin at November 16, 2006 9:32 AMThat's pro yarnage! Beautiful. I can't imagine how good it must feel to knit with something you've made. Congrats on making Yarnival! I'll see you there ;)
Posted by: Carol at November 16, 2006 11:31 AMyummy yarn, as usual. :)
btw, I got my lornas laces and I LOVE it! :)
I sure wish they sold these kits on their web site! It seems everyone can get Blue Moon stuff that has a fiber festival close by, but I am regionally challenged. Clearly, I need a representative!
Posted by: Wendy at November 16, 2006 4:48 PMSo darn beautiful - an amazing transition into yarn! You know the one thing missing for knit/spinning bloggers? Being able to touch and feel things like this. Beatiful work!
Posted by: Terry at November 16, 2006 7:51 PMVery lovely indeed! You're definitely not allowed to call yourself a beginning spinner anymore. I can't wait to see it knit. Are you feeling any trepidation over that part? I gave away or just kept my yarns for a long time before I finally had the courage to start knitting with them because I was afraid that the knitting would reveal some terrible flaw that wasn't otherwise in evidence. When I finally did start knitting the stuff it was such a wonderful surprise that it actually worked and looked good. Like building a chair and then finding that Lo! it actually holds up a person sitting in it!
Posted by: Gryphon at November 18, 2006 1:51 PMStunning. Amazing. Beautiful. Love the Niddy Noddy shot...
