Continuing adventures in sock yarn whoredom

In case anybody wasn't already aware of this, K and I are pretty much resigned to being sock yarn whores. We just can't help ourselves. So, when I found out that KnitHappens was having a 30% off everything in the store sale with free shipping on orders over $100, of course we had to go in on an order filled exclusively with sock yarn.

Let me show you the absurdity that arrived today:

Sock yarn whoredom

That is 6 hanks of Fleece Artist Merino sock yarn and 2 skeins of KPPPM in colorway P610. Unfortunately, Fleece Artist doesn't appear to label their skeins in any way (or I am blind, definitely a possibility), so I'm not sure which color is which. I'm guessing we didn't necessarily get the colors we ordered since the two in the middle look exactly the same, and we ordered all different colors. The bottom one is definitely Cosmic Dawn. The other five may be some combination of Indian Summer, Cranberry, Origin, Tiger, and Jester. If there are any Fleece Artist colorway identification experts out there, I'd appreciate some help!

[ EDIT: Sorry for the confusion, these skeins did come with the big honkin' Fleece Artists wrapped around the outside, but they weren't labeled with the color names. I took those off for the picture to give K a good idea of what the colors looked like, since she won't be able to see and feel the skeins until tonight. They also have turquoise tags that hang from each (barely visible in the picture), but again no color names. So when I said "doesn't appear to label their skeins in any way" I meant "doesn't appear to label their skeins with the colorway in any way." I think this is odd, not necessarily bad, though it does seem to make it more difficult for stores to fill orders with specific colorways if they can't identify them... ]

Another minor gripe: I've purchased Fleece Artist before and absolutely loved it. This time is no different, but I do notice a distinct vinegary smell. It's not as strong as with Schaefer Anne, but it's there. Overall, K and I are both very happy with the order though. I'm glad we got two of the colorway in the middle because it's both of our favorites, and now we don't have to fight over it!

Oh yes, and regarding random knitterly things: I will scope out Los Altos on Friday for a patch of grass to eat on during the Harlot adventure. If there are few enough of us, we can probably just grab some tables outside of AG Ferrari / Jamba Juice. I'm getting a little worried about walking too far and then having to rush back to get seats. I wish we could reserve seating zones when we reserve book signing zones, but oh well.

And what's up with the blog contest? Did I intimidate everybody out of entering? Do the prizes suck? Or is everybody waiting until the last moment as some sort of strategic manuever? Right now there are 7 entries / 6 people, which means there's a 50% chance of winning! Come on, you know you want to enter the blog contest! Did I mention free yarn? If the prizes suck, let me know. I might be able to fix that.

Your prizes completely DON'T suck, but I'm intimidated by coming up with big words. Love the yarn. Must. resist. sale.

Well, you've cajoled me into entering your contest. I'll let you know when my post is up...

The single skein of Fleece Artist sock yarn I've indulged in had a huge honkin' tag (skein-wrapper?) on it, with a pattern printed inside. No vinegar smell that I noticed. Dunno. Maybe you could identify some of them at the Simply Socks website (I'm sure you know about that website, you sock-yarn hoarders!) Sure is purty, no matter what the colors are called...

You need some Scout yarn! It smells good when you get it.... :)

I am into contests but I am a bit terrified by the idea of coming up with some fantastic big words

How bizarre that the Fleece Artist isn't labelled? I think I've seen labels on the yarn on other blogs. Where did you order it from? That would seriously annoy me. Still though, it'd be hard to be annoyed for long since it's truly lovely yarn.

Maybe contact the seller of the yarn for some guidance....

I belive the term is "ho," no? I'm so envious of your purchase, I'm going out to my nearest yarn-crack dealer right now to get a fix.
