I finished rpm! These socks are a nice quick knit and are awesome. When I started knitting the first one, I thought it might be cool to reverse the swirls for the second sock. Unfortunately I totally forgot about that plan until after I turned the heel on the second sock. I think it would work either way.
Pattern: rpm from Knitty Summer 2006 by Aija Goto
Yarn: Cherry Tree HIll Supersock Potluck Colorways - Earth
Mods: Thinner yarn / smaller gauge, p2k6 instead of p3k6
Random ramble 1: I finally got around to updating the Pomatomus page. Holy crap, I can't believe how many people have knit them! That is so exciting! Especiall fascinating were the "foreign" pomatomi gracing the globe in Scandinavia, Germany, Spain and Japan. I felt bad that Hedera didn't have its own page, so I made a Hedera page too. If I missed anybody, let me know.
Random ramble 2: Ok, so I'm not going to win Monkee's gross food blogiversary competition, but I figure I might as well submit anyway. What we have here is some dried cuttlefish. Mmmmmmm. If only you could smell it, then you would understand just how wonderful it is. This stuff is awesome. Too bad the hubby made me put it away because he could smell it from the bedroom.
And not only do I love this stuff, but so does Minky:
And how much do I like cuttlefish? Look at this cutey. (Note that the red print says "roasted cuttlefish" and those brown streaks are actually roast marks. No wonder his eyes are popping out.)
Random ramble 3: In the yummy food category, I had heard about Japanese green tea KitKats before, but I had no idea that there are also green tea KitKats with red bean innards. Wow, that is truly awesome.
Random ramble 4: Flickr never ceases to amaze me. Did you know there's a group for obsessive sheep photographers with 372 members? I'm especially fond of these two pictures.
I can't get over the green tea KitKats let alone with red bean innards. That I think is worse than the cuttle fish. Although I haven't smelled it.
I thought I would let you know that I loved knitting your pomatomus socks. Links to the FO http://ahousemadeofwool.blogspot.com/2006/06/fo-alert.html and http://ahousemadeofwool.blogspot.com/2006/06/some-photos.html
I LOVE dried cuttlefish! It's such a yummy snack. My hubby looks at me like I'm crazy, but he eats beef jerky. Isn't it similar stuff? :)
Posted by: cooknknit at July 11, 2006 11:59 AMI just have to tell you that, since it's way too warm to wear wool socks here right now, I've artfully draped my favorite 2 pairs over the back of a chair in my living room for viewing. One of them is the Pomoatomus socks and those are the ones that everyone comments on and pets. I can't tell you how many people have visited my house and hinted that I could make them a pair too. It's a great pattern!
Posted by: hillary at July 11, 2006 12:46 PMMy husband loves dried cuttlefish. I don't think they smell so bad, nor do I think they are all that gross. Not nearly as gross as the raw sea urchin guts I've seen my FIL slurp up.
I think the Pomatomus socks from Sin Control are photographed particularly well. I think one of her photos was highlighted as a pick of the day on Flickr.
Posted by: Jo at July 11, 2006 1:03 PMI was getting all set to tell you that you missed my pomatomi, but then I scrolled down and found myself on your list! I forget sometimes that other people read my blog (hee hee) since I'm still relatively new. Today I cast on some baudelaires. It's possible I like them even more than the pomatomus socks. Thanks for your awesome patterns!

Posted by: Rachel at July 11, 2006 1:09 PMSorry for the double comment there - I had some problems posting. Guess now you get three from me! :)
Posted by: Rachel at July 11, 2006 1:10 PMThey turned out awesome!! I have pomatamus on my to-knit list. Hopefully I'll get to it soon! Thanks for the obsessive sheep people pics.
Posted by: monica at July 11, 2006 1:29 PMMMMMMM. I love dried cuttlefish.
Have you ever had oven toasted dried fish? My godmother used to make this for us and it had roast/grill marks on it. So yummy.
Posted by: freecia at July 11, 2006 1:39 PMSalivating all over the keyboard.... love the salty-sweetness of dried cuttlefish. And Green Tea Kit Kat with red beans.... Must find them. If you get a line on some let me know, k?
Posted by: Nathania at July 11, 2006 4:50 PMI've spent some time in Japan, and let me tell you, there's MUCH worse things you could be eating than dried cuttlefish!
But I really just wanted to say that I'm incredibly impressed that you made a pair of socks so quickly!
And also that I'm in love with the Baudelaire socks. Madly and passionately.
Posted by: Specs at July 11, 2006 5:42 PMCUTTLEFISH FREAK!
Oh dear. Y'all aren't making this easy.
Posted by: monkeemaven at July 11, 2006 6:54 PMCute socks!
That dried cuttlefish looks unpleasant. Yikes.
Posted by: Abigail at July 11, 2006 9:29 PMYou're quick off the mark! They look great, and the yarn you chose is perfect. They show the spirals off a lot better than the designer's socks do!
Posted by: Sharon at July 12, 2006 1:49 AMLove the socks. Yours look really great! Dried cuttlefish looks interesting. I have never seen that around here. The little stuffed cuttlefish is so cute!
Posted by: Crystal at July 12, 2006 6:15 AMWhere did you get the stuffed cuttlefish? That's adorable!
Posted by: Kristin at July 12, 2006 7:59 AMI just finished my second pair of Pomatomi! It really is an awesome pattern and it's no wonder it's been made by so many knitters!
LOL! I love that stuffed cuttlefish.
Posted by: Pink Dandelion at July 12, 2006 1:09 PMOh! and the sheep pictures, I forgot about those - the first of your two favs made me ROFL.
Posted by: Pink Dandelion at July 12, 2006 1:11 PMYay, you found my Pomatomi! Did you see the successful reversal as well?
Posted by: Sarah at July 12, 2006 1:56 PMI've been lurking for a while now, and I enjoy reading your blog (both of you). I love all your patterns, both those you've published and those you choose to knit.
I have a project I'm getting started over at [http://www.historicstitcher.blogspot.com]. It's a bit much to explain here, but it has to do with history, fiber, and our obsessions with them. I hope you'll read the blurb I have over on my blog and consider participating. If you have questions, please ask.
I've posted a comment, rather than email directly, as I'm hoping that like-minded others will also find their way over.
Thanks!
Erika
I think you will need to start a Baudelaire page too pretty soon. I'm almost done with the first sock and I love the pattern!
Posted by: Kirsten at July 13, 2006 8:10 PMYour RPMs are fabulous. They're going on my list of must-dos. Love your blog.
Posted by: Leslie at July 15, 2006 5:46 PMGreat socks - I'm ready to cast on for those next! (then yours after that!)
Posted by: stacey at July 17, 2006 11:28 AMWow, awesome socks. I am SO making those *soon*...and the Baudelaires too. The wicked cool sock patterns are coming out faster than i can knit!
Posted by: jeni at July 18, 2006 7:00 PMNow that you've convinced me that the rpm's are quick and easy plus! you've included a pic to top it off - I guess I just have to order some yarn :) Hmm, I think I'll pick up some cuttlefish next trip to Nijiya market...
ps - thanks to both, for making my knitting so much fun - w. your blog and patterns!
Could your cookies look any yummier?! Makes me want to go and make some!
Posted by: Carolyn at July 20, 2006 6:23 AMI love your RPM socks--they look great and have inspired me to cast on some of my own!
Also love your Hedra pattern which I just recently discovered!
You sure it's Scandinavia? Only it looks like a Netherlandish page to me. 'Cause it's in Hollandish and the domain is a .nl-one. Yeah, I know, pedantic is my middle name. I'll knit the socks when I have some time left over though, and that way you'll still have Scandinavia on your list. ;-)
Posted by: EGJ at July 31, 2006 4:50 AMHELP! Started working on my first Pomatomus Sunday and I need a support group ;) The knit-a-long I just read about at Twisted Thistle is not connecting ...hope it works later. Will check.
HAVE NEVER knit from a chart - only been knitting since December 05/may be in over my head!!
Row 12 of the first 1-22 repeat ends in a YO?
How do you YO on the end of a row?
There's an * that says to move stitches around on the needles but I'm not sure when?
Again with the HELP!? lol
Posted by: laurie in maine at July 31, 2006 11:18 AMSuch a cutie cat! Just wanted to let you know that I've knit both Pomatomus and Hedera. More pics are in my Flickr account, but the two links above are to my blog posts about the respective projects. Wait, there was a second pair of Hedera that I knit toe-up with a short-row heel.
