I was so excited to be almost done with the second sock, I just knit it all up last night (save the heel). Then I put it down because I didn't want to try to figure out the sewn cast off while I was watching TV. As I was drifting off to sleep later, dreams of sewn cast offs dancing in my head, I realized it.
No ribbing. Whoops. Guess I'm a little too used to top down socks, so I don't think about ribbing near the end of my sock knitting.
Oh well, just a little ripping, then a little ribbing. Then the cast off. Then the heel. Then fixing the cast off on the other sock. That's all. Oh, and weaving in the ends.
Oh yeah, and I decided to rip out the "snake" scarf. I want to find something that showcases the yarn a little better. Cookie mentioned Brioche stitch. Any other suggestions?
Oh, how funny! I just thought one was a bit longer than the other. They are great colors, though. And ribbing doesn't take that long.
Posted by: Jessica at May 20, 2006 4:11 PMFor the green yarn, how about something open/elongated stitch-ish within the scarf, to show off individual strands of yarn? Like seafoam or some crossover action?
Posted by: Aija at May 20, 2006 5:20 PMI like the idea of brioche stitch. I am loving it right now.
Good thing it's simple because ripping back is definitely not. (I went back to fix that big hole I made on Thursday. D'oh.)
Posted by: abigail at May 20, 2006 8:54 PMBrioche would probably look good. I can't get a sense of whether that yarn is "light" but if it is a simple drop-stitch, purse stitch, or similar would show off texture and light-ness. The yarn looks a bit heavier, though, so brioche or a variant might be the best call. Mistake rib also might work.
The varigated yarn is beautiful, fancy stitches will probably be lost in the colour. If you insist on using a pattern, then something in a leaf or scale pattern would work.
Posted by: Jeanie at May 22, 2006 1:34 AMI have some handpainted yarn and after experimenting a bit, I think the feather/fan and chevron seemed to show the nice color changes off the most. Dropped stitches too.
Posted by: Juls at May 22, 2006 1:45 PMOk, now THAT's funny. And how were they gonna stay up, exactly? Love the striping on these socks, they are going to be great.
I did a scarf in solid color bulky this past month in a slip st pattern - over 15 sts - Row 1: [K3, sl1 wyif] 3x, K3. Row 2: K1, [sl1 wyif, K3] 3x, sl1 wyif, K1. I liked the way it made nice elongated sts but in a reversible fabric. I thought I had a picture, but it looks like I don't yet.
Posted by: spinnity at May 22, 2006 4:15 PMWhat's with the thin blue line on the right sock? It disturbs me.
