After my failed attempt at new socks with the Socks that Rock, I decided to just do something simple. Mindless, even. Stockinette socks. I had been wanting to try the cast-on from the most recent Knitty, so a pair of toe-up socks it is.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking. "Who has such square toes?!?!?" Here's your answer: me.
Doesn't my big toe just look happy, snug as a bug in a rug? I thought so.
The yarn is Lana Grossa Melienweit Cotton Fun in the beloved color "333" which I have renamed "Popsicle", because, clearly, it reminds me of popsicles. This yarn is one of the most recently added to my collection, so maybe I shouldn't be knitting it first (is that a rule? Are there rules?) ... but it's cotton, so it will be nice for summertime evenings if it's too cool for my sandals!
Actually, since this picture was taken on Saturday, I've almost finished the first sock. But I decided to do an afterthought heel, so trying it on for pictures at this point might look a little funny!
Hey, you ARE here. Nice socks! I sent you email, I thought, last week. I bet it was an old address. I am hoping you can help with some info for a party. Can you send me email so I can get the right address for you in my address books.
I just looked again. That's a REALLY nice sock. Afterthought heel is a great idea in this yarn, so as not to mess up the striping. Looking forward to seeing the socks in action.
Posted by: spinnity at May 1, 2006 11:22 PMOh those are cute! I love the square toe!
Also, can you please tell me where you got your dyes? Cookie sent me some and now I need to re-produce the Black Cherry and I don't know what it is! ACK!
Thank you!
Posted by: Scout at May 2, 2006 5:51 AMThose look like the perfect socks for summer. I can't wait to see your bullseye heel.
Posted by: Janice at May 2, 2006 9:09 AMI have square toes also! So glad to see someone else does too. The colors remind me of that stuff that is basically sugar water in plastic tubes that you freeze - I can't remember what it was called. They were multiple colors and dyed your tongue whatever color they were.
Posted by: Kim at May 2, 2006 10:47 AMToe-up socks rock-I like the short row one, but haven't figured out how to put ribbing in the heel (for strength), since the heel is done with short rows as well. Also, is there a magic cast-off that is elastic but not sloppy?
Posted by: JudyG. at May 3, 2006 8:08 PMThese are so cheerful! I scored some happy sock yarn too at FTA the other day, a pink/orange (reminds me of rainbow sherbet) Sockotta. Summer knitting, here I come :)
Posted by: Juls at May 4, 2006 6:51 AMCute socks!
FYI, I have a tutorial on my blog (actually since last October) that demonstrates that cast on but in a even easier fashion. I thought you might like it :)
