I got back from Turkey a week ago, but things have been quite hectic. First, I'm sooooo sorry to anybody who ordered the Katrina Rib while I was gone and didn't get it in a timely fashion. I set up my email to autorespond, but apparently I set it incorrectly. Hopefully Kristi was able to email the pattern to everyone who ordered it. If not, please let me know! Also, to answer a few questions, the increases do look a bit strange on close inspection, but it doesn't seem noticeably strange from a foot away. I used the M1P/K where you take the yarn between the two stitches on the row below, and purl or knit in such a way that the resulting stitch is twisted (through the front or back depending on how you picked up the yarn below). My Katrina Rib is being housed at Commuknity at the moment, so I can't photograph it, but Kristi's is coming along nicely and we should have nice clear pictures up soon. The section where the traveling rib occurs is also confusing, but I think pictures will help with this. Once you get to the section where there is a K2tog before the first stitch marker on every travel row, the 2x2 ribbing between the stitch markers begins with K1 P2 K2 P2 etc. The first K1 of the 2x2 ribbing is the k2tog that came *before* the stitch marker. I hope that clears up all the confusion and will update the Katrina Post with this info.
Okay, now to ramble about Turkey. I FORGOT TO BRING MY KNITTING NEEDLES. There I was with an hour to decide what knitting to bring. I narrowed it down to one lace project, my current sock project (which was almost done) and another ball of sock yarn. That makes for light packing but lots of knitting. Somehow I managed to forget the current sock project which had the sock needles in it. AGH. There was so much driving around in a car, and I wasn't able to knit during it! So that was tragic.
Otherwise, Turkey was awesome, if totally exhausting with all the sightseeing and driving and walking and stuff. I was on the lookout for traditional turkish knit socks. They are a lot like Latvian mittens, but in sock form, in that they are small gauge, use lots of colors, and have braids. They also have pointy heels and toes like the tops of Latvian mittens. Unfortunately, I was unable to find real traditional Turkish knitting anywhere. There were some handknitted socks and mittens, but they used larger gauged yarn and didn't have braids. And the knitting skill was questionable. I saw quite a bit of puckering.
What I did manage to see where lots of goats roaming the countryside (Ankara aka Angora is the capital of Turkey). And lots of sheep!!! Here is a picture of ancient renderings of sheep:
And here is the hubby with one of the 7 wonders of the Ancient World. This here is the one remaining column at the temple of Artemis.
Welcome back! Glad to hear you had a good time in Turkey. Can't wait to see more Katrina pictures so I know I'm not a bad knitter. :)
Posted by: Jody at November 1, 2005 8:53 AMYay, welcome back! Turkey would be AWESOME, I'm so jealous. I haven't had a chance to start on my K.R. yet, but I'm making notes. I already have the yarn picked out, does that count?

Posted by: Crimson at December 5, 2005 10:17 AMCookie -- sob sob sob -- I need to contact you about the Pomatomus sock. Can't get the "contact Cookie" at the end of your pattern ato work. I've tried all kinds of maneuvers to get this to work.
I really want to do this sock. Already have the cuffs done with Lorna's Laces -- Jeans colorway. But no matter how many times or whatever I do -- even on the screen at the website -- the symbols in those charts defy me. It isn't that I can't see them -- I have 20/20 vision. The symbols for K2tog and K3tog are fuzzy.
I would really like it if there is some way to get actual written out instructions. But will do the hated charts if I can get a clear something to look at.
