Mohair: The experiment

So I decided to freeze the mohair in an attempt to simplify the frogging process. I'd heard that it worked, and Carolyn reminded me of this as well. I had my doubts about it. I can understand freezing gum and hair. Freezing gums solidifies it, making it easier to break. Mohair, on the other hand, *is* solid. What difference would sticking it in the freezer do? Well, the result of my experiment? Putting mohair in the freezer makes it colder. That's about it. I'm going to chalk up the freezing method as urban legend.

*Maybe* if I froze the mohair after wetting it, that would work because then it would be covered in ice that would break. But I'm not up for trying what could potentially be disastrous.

My solution: Give up on the parts that were bad and CUT THEM OUT. So I've cut off the bad parts. What is left to do is to remove all the little pieces of yarn bits leftover. Still very annoying, but not as annoying as ripping out hundreds of stitches.

oh sorry that didn't work out for you! I think the cold is supposed to make the "hairs" calm down and remove static so it's easier to frog. But i've never tried it--I'm allergic to frogging. OH YEAH You guys rock!! I got my sock wool in the mail!! Thanks so much--I'm sending out a box to you today (sorry I forgot).
