Also before leaving for Toronto, I started a new lace project. It is a Marianne Kinzel pattern called "London Pride." Here's the cover of the pattern leaflet:
It calls for crochet cotton on size 2 needles, but I am using the cashmere I have left over from the Madli, so I am using size 1 needles instead because the cashmere is a lot stretchier in the blocking process. Also, Addi size 1 needles are more like a 1.5 in comparison to US needle manufacturers.
As of this close up (where I am today), I have knit 73 rounds. The pattern can either be a tablecloth which is 287 rounds and 5'8" in diameter, or a teacloth which is 237 rounds and 4'8" in diameter. I would like to make the tablecloth, but I am worried that I will run out of steam or yarn.
In fact, after calculating how far along I really am, I determined that I am only 6.4% of the way done if I am making the tablecloth, and 9.3% of the way done if I am making the teacloth. This is frightening because I've already used up a noticeable amount of yarn. In fact, I decided I'd better weigh everything to see what my yarn status is:
Turns out I've used about 3/4 oz of yarn, and I have 3.5 oz left. Nowhere near enough for the teacloth let alone the tablecloth. Looks like a yarn order is in my future. And boy does this sucker use a lot of yarn for lace. Each row is starting to get really long. Right now each round is already over 500 stitches, and it increases by about 16 stitches on every odd row. At the outer edges, this is going to get INSANE.
And the funny thing? What am I going to do with an oversized cashmere doily? Certainly not use it as a tablecloth that's for sure! I don't know, but I just want to knit it. It's really addictive knitting in the round when the pattern keeps changing.
What's the point of knitting with cashmere if you aren't going to touch it? I vote for wearing it too. :)
