Ok ok, the wedding stole is postponed for now. Here's why. First, I decided to knit the Forest Path Stole from Interweave Knits:
I picked up size 3 needles, knit the beginning border section (no small feat, mind you), and then I got the Legend of the Shetland Seas pattern from my wonderful secret pal. Unsure of what to do next, I let it sit for a while and finished Butterfly. THEN, I got Heirloom Knitting in the mail. This book is AWESOME. Now I totally want this to be my wedding stole:
At first I browsed through the different lace stitch patterns thinking I would pick some and make my own stole pattern out of those, but when I picked my favorite ones, I found out they were lamed down versions of the stitch patterns in the Unst Lace Stole pattern. The Unst Stole Pattern is absolutely perfect. Now if I can just knit it in time... We'll see what progress is like in January and if I'm screaming in pain. I ordered size 1 (!!!) needles from KnitPicks (along with some yarn, of course), and am axiously awaiting them.
As for the bridesmaids's stoles, I have picked out and ordered the yarns. There is a different grey yarn for each bridesmaid/matron: Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Smoke, Misti International Baby Alpaca Laceweight in Silver Grey, and Jaggerspun Zephyr in Steel. The Kidsilk Haze will be knit on large needles in a simple pattern I'm going to design (E is a beginner). K is knitting the other two, and she is making Madli by Nancy Bush and Lead or Follow from Heartstrings Fibers.
that is gorgeous. Hey, I'll help you make a stole if you get pressed for time.
