new york trip

I've been procrastinating seaming my wavy ribbon top, so here's a recap of my New York adventure.

Saturday was spent eating and drinking. Sunday was spent recovering from the previous night's overdrinking. Monday, we went to the garment district to visit Habu. I saw lots of great yarns and was ready to splurge, but they were out of two of the yarns I wanted, and ordering was supposed to take two months! Instead I ordered a yarn catalog and got some pink-mauve mohair which doesn't photograph well. Here's the cone and a swatch knit on size 7 needles. It's very pretty and soft. I want to make a holey sweater with it.

After that we headed towards shopping because J is into that sort of thing. But first we stopped at String, a yarn store recommended to me by one of the Stitch n Bitch girls. It was small, but they had a good selection of colorful yarns. And there was a sale section where everything was 50% off. Frustrated with not being able to drop a fortune at Habu, I bought a lot of stuff at String instead.

First, some Noro Kujaku. I got 4 skeins. I think it looks really cool. I was thinking about jumping on the poncho bandwagon with it, since K's already done so, but now I'm having second thoughts since it'll probably be at the end of the fashion peak once I'm done.

Next up I wanted some Koigu KPPPM in a bright blue mixed colorway they had, but unfortunately they only had one hank (was looking to make socks for my secret pal). So I didn't get any. I was sad. Instead, I got a bunch of Katia Spray from the discount bin. I have an idea of what I want to make (a tank) and have swatched some for it.

I also got some Austermann Spot because it looks so damn freaky. Unfortunately, when I tried to knit some yesterday, it was a huge pain in my ass. Hrmph.

And I saved the best for last. I got K a hank of Koigu Kersti Merino because that's not her name. Teehee. I thought she'd like the color, and it feels damn good. They only had one hank in the discount bin, but I think she'll figure out something to do with it.

And then L and I went and knit in Central Park while J shopped his heart out at Barney's. That was definitely fun.
