So one of the big motivating reasons for visiting my parents this weekend is because they live really close to where Stitches Midwest is being held. I really thought I'd have an easy time being good not buying yarn, since I have a bunch, and I'm a fan of online bargain hunting. But oh. my. goodness.
First of all, WEBS was there. I was looking at some Filatura Di Crosa Adhoc Piu yarn in a nice green when someone else asked how much it cost (I wasn't even going to ask because I don't *really* need it, and I assumed it was going to cost a bit). It was $10 A BAG. That's $1 a ball! That's.... that's.... that's.... outrageous!!! I immediately grabbed two bags thinking 1.5 should be enough for a good big cardigan, and I'm sure K will want the rest. And then my yarn buying impulse control completely failed. They also had some Artful Yarns Vaudeville on special discount for $30 a bag, and I think the stuff looks really cool. On the plus side, there were a bunch of yarns I got to look at that I decided I *don't* want anymore. So I won't be tempted by them in the future. When I went to ring up my yarn, the guy at the counter recognized my name from my credit card because I'd ordered "a big order" from them earlier. I felt like I had "YARNAHOLIC" all over my face. There was no denying it.
From there it only went downhill. I decided that I do in fact like the Tahki Capri, but not in the color they had, so I ordered some in Rose. I also decided that I like Carla from It's a Tape Thing, so I got the book as well. I will hopefully be participating in the Carla-a-along substituting the Tahki Capri for Rowan Cotton Tape. I also want to adapt one of the patterns (possibly Excite, Fever or Eternal) to use the Vaudeville which has a much smaller gauge.
Then I went back to Habu's booth. Their stuff was really interesting and unique. There was a stainless steel silk that I never would have considered getting except that they had a sample outfit (pants and shirt) made in it that was just very cool looking. It was way out of my budget, so I did manage to impulse control there. However, I was also strangely intrigued by their paper silk yarn which felt really rough (like coarse paper), and again by looking at the hank, I would never have dreamt of using it. But they had a shirt knit up with it and some thin silk yarn that felt and looked pretty neat. So I splurged. I'm going to try mixing that with the red tweed wool/silk I got from WEBS. That was it. I swear. I ended up leaving because I was starving. I was hoping not eating breakfast would help me leave early which I guess it did, but not enough!
In other news, today has been really good to me. My mom found a random gift card which I was able to use to preorder a CD (Clinic - Winchester Cathedral) online. And, my mom found macrame and crochet books that she's giving to me. I think when she retires, I might be able to get her to take up crocheting again. And then maybe knitting!
Hi, I was at Stitches MW. Did you have fun? I wish I'd known you'd be there I would have liked to meet you. I just joined Carla too.

I definitely enjoyed Stitches MW. I didn't learn about it soon enough to sign up for any classes I was interested in, so I just went to the market for a couple hours on Sunday and molested some yarns. Mmmm, yarn. Next time, I should try socializing instead of focusing on the yarn! That might have helped my bank account.
