a beautiful thing

it's funny sometimes how things can go instantly from sucky to awesome by just simply taking action. if there's one thing i (should) have learned on multiple occasions, it's that if something truly is bothering you but doing something about it seems so awkward - do it anyway. as long as your underlying purpose is reasonable, things will work out for the good more often than not - though perhaps not as you might intend or even expect. this proved itself to me once again today

well, i suppose in truth i have learned this - but sometimes it's hard to take it to heart when you're bummed about, upset about, or feel like giving up on something... or worse depressed. fortunately that latter one's a condition i haven't had to deal with for a little while now, except maybe mildly on brief occasions. anyway, i'm getting off-topic

bottom line is this. don't be afraid to tell people what you want. there's far too much stuff to do, relationships to develop, experiences to be had, skills/character/knowledge to obtain to waste time trying to indirectly accomplish things - especially if other people are involved, and you care about how they're affected. just get to the core desire and be smart about how you present it. people can always surprise you, by how much they want what you want

anyway, enough of "preaching". it's just something that's come up again and again, so i thought i'd mention it... the kind of thing that makes you go "awww yeah" =)

a bunch has happened this past week, and i may or may not get to them in the blog. thanks alicia though for brightening my day earlier this week! maybe i'll make it out to seattle sometime. i do miss you!

not your typical short attention c-span!

oh yeah, i almost forgot

so i set up my tv for the first time in many years yesterday. roy was over and i cooked some food, so it seemed a reasonable thing to do. i am a little concerned about the distraction it may pose in the future, but that's not the point of this entry

i was flipping through the channels today (i have this "satellite" service provided by the apartment complex which has all of like 12 channels, including an odd mix of cable channels) and something amazing happened

- i flipped on c-span and it actually wasn't boring (for a few minutes anyway)

- i caught a portion of (former) president clinton giving a talk (on current events in the middle east) and answering questions, and i actually thought he made some respectable comments

these were two things i never expected would happen. just goes to show that surprises lurk everywhere! =)

i sell myself... when i think of you

so, i touched up my resume earlier tonight. i'll be throwing that the way of some friends later today to see what opportunities are available near them. i'm in no rush to enter full-time employment yet (consulting is treating me just fine at the moment =) ), but i want to at least see what the waters are like. i'm hoping there are some companies out there doing well enough to want to hire someone like me

i made up an "external" web page for my band, but i haven't made an "internal" one yet. i'll get to that later

thanks for the comments earlier everyone. i'm quite happy to see alicia too, whose blog i pop in to read from time to time and whom i've been trying to get mike kim to hook up (no, not like that) with (since they only live in the same city!) for a year now! yay for getting friends together! i really would like to see alicia - i haven't seen her in what... almost 5 years now. so sad. must engineer a trip out to seattle i guess =). let's see... who'd be willing to fly me out there for an interview, hrmm?

btw, i (will) have commented on the "grunken/m..." issue if anyone is curious. so is there some easy way to tell if a comment has been added to an entry recently? i mean, if someone adds a comment to this entry a year from now, how will anyone know? seems kind of unreliable if you ask me...

anyway, i've got a handful (and more) of stuff ahead of me this week. i've once again sunk into a bad sleep schedule, so this is another obstacle to deal with. ergh, not too happy about that. but hopefully i'll kick ass anyway

someone's losing $1... (might as well be you)

alright, i'm back home. drove up to chicago for band practice yesterday and checked out steve's new crib (pretty sweet). also got to see a certain hobbit film a second time (excellent dvd transfer i might add), which reminded me how damn good it was

so let's see... i need to set up a good web site for the band to keep tabs on practice recordings of each of our songs. i also need to put up newer versions of the songs for "(semi-)public consumption" ;)... also i need to update my bridge page (just picked up another .80 at the club yesterday!) and make a small page for the illini regional that happened late last month (the final word on my masterpoint take came in at 3.05)... also i need to look into enrolling into grad classes for summer (might be too late)... and i need to thump around and see what job opportunities are available

i have some other things to write about, but i just wanted to get some of this stuff down. i've been swamped trying to remember too many things lately, so i suspect this will be at least mildly beneficial. of course, the fact that i'm still awake at this ungodly hour probably isn't...

i think someone is out $1, but i don't know who. i'll let them figure it out =)

p.s. if you think this all-lowercase style is annoying/detracting, go ahead and let me know. i'm already thinking that this is not a great format for that style and am considering switching

this battlestation is armed and fully operational

thanks to mike kim for setting up my blog and for the graphic design!

i'm still figuring this out, so expect a little weirdness for a little bit. the main reason i started this blog actually is so i can keep track of things going on/i'm thinking about in my life. if it turns out to be useful as a vehicle for keeping my friends up with me (and vice versa), then that would be sweet. if so, let me know!

anyway, let's see if this thing is working...
