As you may recall (or not), I gave Cookie the gift of handspun yarn for Christmas, though due to circumstances somewhat beyond my control, that yarn was ... not quite ready at Christmas. But then she went and told me I could take my time with it; she's in no hurry, she's got lots of yarn, etc. etc. Then something was mentioned about wanting a sweater's worth of yarn perhaps. So I ended up with a plan to spin three Sheep 2 Shoe* kits in Lucy. Let's just say that that project became hard to remain monogamous to, as it is a somewhat long term project. Ok, maybe it wouldn't be that long term of a project if I just finished it, but as much as I love these colors and this fiber, I needed to break things up. So that's when I decided that for every one of these
I finished, I would get to do a new project. And after plying a full bobbin, I would get to do a new project. So, as you can see, I finished another bobbin last night (4 out of 9!), and immediately dove in to a new project:
This is BFL from Spunky Eclectic in the "Confused" colorway. BFL has a much longer staple length than the merino that I was getting rather used to, so it's been fun to play with it for a change of pace.
Well.
On Thursday, after some "gentle nudging" from Cookie and perhaps under the influence of some pain meds, I figured out a new way to get around my self-imposed monogamy rules:
Drop spindle.
Suddenly I'm seeing how people end up with many wheels/spindles.
*People often comment about the Sheep 2 Shoe kit: "Where can I get one?" or "I wish I could get one of those!". I have gotten Sheep 2 Shoe kits mostly from Purlescence, an LYS (they had some in, last I checked, in several colorways), but also at The Fold when I was visiting Chicagoland. You can also contact Blue Moon directly if you're interested as far as I know. Hope that helps.
The blue and brown combo is gorgeous! I want some! Seriously beatiful spinning. Thanks for sharing.

Posted by: Jackie L at April 25, 2007 9:56 PMDamn, the Cookie sure is lucky. Wait, that's me. Woohoo!!!!
Posted by: cookie at April 25, 2007 9:57 PMThe Lucy yarn colors are so pretty.
I also like the way the spunky eclectic yarn is turning out. What is that on your drop spindle?
Posted by: Abigail at April 25, 2007 10:33 PMBeautiful! Cookie *is* lucky. What's the fiber on the drop spindle??
Posted by: pamela wynne at April 25, 2007 10:35 PMI really love the Lucy yarn colors. Every time I see that colorway I think I should buy a skein of it. But I think I really love that Confused colorway mix. What an interesting mix of colors. And you did really awesome with the drop spindle! I ought to play with my cd spindle thingy I got at Stitches. (I am resisting it at present to avoid supplementing my stash with fiber..)
Posted by: Teenuh at April 25, 2007 10:55 PMthat confused colorway is so neat!! the name is perfect!
i use knitting as my reward a lot of the time - if I clean the bathroom, I can knit for an hour...the only way I can get my cleaning done! :)
Posted by: stacey at April 26, 2007 6:52 AMI love Spunky's stuff. I'm currently spinning up a sock fiber set in the "Pie" colorway, and it's just lovely. I've also spun up that same colorway, "Confused." Isn't it fun?
Posted by: CJ at April 26, 2007 8:38 AMPretty! My S2S kit is calling me from the fiber stash, but I'm ignoring it until I finish my current project. For the time being, I'm trying to remain monogamous with my spinning... we'll see how that lasts. I like how the toffee is turning out. I may have to pick up a bag when I stop by said LYS.
Posted by: Janice at April 26, 2007 9:10 AMI CANNOT remain monogamous. I have quite a few spinning projects going on right now, and after the Fiber Event (Indiana) a few weeks ago I have tons of rovings and new exciting things to spin...I cannot torture myself! I was thinking as I've been spinning this one project that I wanted to get finished before I started another one, but I just can't. With one bobbine full and another one to go, I just needed something different. I'm working on getting my second wheel, but in the mean time I have three spindles, and about ten or twelve bobbins to work with (and I seem to buy more bobbins everytime my LYS has more in stock). Love all the yarns, they are beautiful!
Posted by: Jamisyn at April 26, 2007 11:31 AMHmmmmm, yes, that's why I don't allow myself to buy extra bobbins. Although I keep thinking it would be such a nice idea...switching from project to project...GAH! I must resist. I hate having things unfinished and the only way I can prevent it is to have only the bobbins my wheel came with. Ah well.
Your spinning looks quite lovely. I can't wait to see the Sweater's Worth all skeined up together. 'Twill be quite impressive!
Posted by: Faith at April 26, 2007 1:10 PMI love the blue and brown colourway - what a beautiful combination.

You're going for best friend of the millennium, aren't you? A sweater's worth? Jeez!
Posted by: G. Knerd at May 2, 2007 4:46 PMStop with the beautiful spinning photos. I'm doing my best to resist. So many knitters have ... oh my god! I just saw a commercial with "sheep tossing" sorry totally distracted*.... anyway, lots of people drift to the spinning, and I'm doing my best to resist. But all you bloggers with your beautiful hand spun are making it too dang hard!
*I have no idea what they were selling, but they had scottish guys spinning around and tossing sheep as far as they could. There was a notation that no sheep were harmed, but that will catch your eye.
