Have I ever told you about the time on our college newspaper when my friend's article ended up with the headline "People got robbed, that sucks"? You see, they put in a filler headline, and somehow it made it through all of the proofing. Yeah. Thank goodness that was while I was still doing layout for the sports section. Anyway, I couldn't think of a clever title, and that's what popped in to my head today.
Spinning continues apace. Or something. I'm not sure there's a pace. And if there one, I'm not sure I'm keeping up. I think my drafting ability has now officially surpassed my treadling speed. Time to get the fast flyer, yo.
Anyway, I'm almost done with the first of 3 bobbins of singles for the Sheep2Shoe kit (In case you don't memorize everything I'm working on [gasp!], it's from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, colorway Rooster Rock. The idea is that you split the roving into 3 strips lengthwise, spin all 3 from the same end, and then ply them together).
Also, I began making a sock with my BFL handspun -- my first sockweight handspun:
I'll be able to keep working on that once I pick up the stitches I dropped trying to get the needles over my heel to take the picture on my ankle instead of my foot.
By the way, Cookie and I thought of a faster way for me to go from Sheep to Shoe:
Too bad stuffing it in your shoes doesn't leave room for your feet. ;)
Posted by: Abigail at October 18, 2006 9:46 PMoh man, i am so drooling over those singles! what looks like fluffy, unsure color variations as roving looks so sharp and dramatic after you spin it!
Posted by: al at October 18, 2006 11:00 PM~snort~I'm surprised not to see a sheep in shoes.
Your handspun is just gorgeous!
i would laugh so hard if i ran into you wearing roving wrapped around your feet!
Posted by: carolyn at October 19, 2006 5:33 AMThe socks are coming along great! How toasty and cozy would your feet be if you wore roving on them!!!!
Posted by: stacey at October 19, 2006 6:37 AMYay, almost done with the first ball! Your first handspun sock looks great! And, you definitely need bigger shoes.
Posted by: Margit at October 19, 2006 8:16 AMWhy go through the tiresome process of shearing, washing, carding, and dyeing?
(Work? What work? I don't have any work I should be doing right now...)
Posted by: Specs at October 19, 2006 2:03 PMCrap. There was supposed to be an hilarious ms paint image in my comment. It's here (although it'll be anti-climactic now):
sheep to shoe
I tried my fast flyer a little while ago. It was not pretty. I still spin pretty slow...I need to work on that.
Your Rooster Rocks looks great!
The socks you're making look exactly like a pattern I just finished called Tangled Up In Blue by Judy Becker. However, her pattern is written toe-up & you're working cuff-down. Hmm....
Hee!! I have the same Docs...they're on my feets right now! I love them with handknit socks 'cause everyone can see a little peek of the socks....hurray for shoes with viewing windows!
