Sock Stash for Socktoberfest

(Picture Heavy Post)

Let me preface this by saying that what I'm about to show you is ... how can I put this? It's ... not all there is. It's everything I could get out easily, and the best of the sock stash. Ok? Cookie wanted me to show you the whole sock stash, but it's really not easy to get all of that Paton's Kroy and the like out. I think she just wanted you to say that I'm just as absurd as she is. So I'm going to admit it. I'm absurd. Alright? Alright. Moving along ...

Where shall we begin on this tour? How about with the Cherry Tree Hill ...

Next up is the Fleece Artist:

(I'm sorry, I'm really not going to tell you all of the colorways for all of these yarns. Sorry!)

The beloved Lorna's Laces (the super special stuff is the Camo that is wound into a ball in the corner there. I'm too scared to knit it. Help.)

My 2 colors of Shelridge Farm (ok, I have 6 skeins of teal, but that is for a SWEATER, ok?)

Some of the miscellaneous stash. This is what I was able to pull out of the top of the bin that has all of the other stuff. The yarn above lives on a shelf in ziploc bags so I can be inspired by it any ol' time.

And there's something I have to tell you about this lot:

I took all of the pics above late last week. Well, after the Purlescence grand opening ... I had to retake that last shot:

I forgot to mention in my last post (sorry, Al) that Al finished her Sarcelle! On time for her mom's birthday and everything, I'm so glad.

It never remembers me, so why do I bother with the radio button?

That is a lot of yarn. All very pretty, though! I think my favorite is the second from the left, second photo down. It reminds me of the 80s.

Oh. Oh my. Oh wow.

I really can't express how much I want to have your stash. Really can't.

Oh my.

I'm feeling faint, looking at the bounty before me. Quick, someone wave some wool under my nose.

Is that out-of-production NoNo Kitty I spy in the fifth picture?

it is soooo nice to know that someone else out there has more sock yarn than me.

people think i'm crazy. my yarn stash is growing (sock and sweater projects)... but i blame that all on grad school!

After knitting close to a dozen pairs of socks, I finally used the Lorna's Laces for my last pair. Oh. My. God. I have been slumming it all this time!

Not really, but it was a revelation. It is better than all the raves. I am now knitting up some STR that had been marinating way too long, and am having revelations again!

Can sock yarn be a religious experience?

Oh, the humanity! Yes, you are absurd. . .but if you are, I am too! Gorgeous collection!

Given my own sock stash that looks pretty reasonable...I love the Cherry Hill and the Fleece Artist and the LL's..heck I love it all. What do you plan to do with the Camo that you are afraid of....? Excellent photos - you need great yarn and a bit of it to have that constant inspiration we all need for sock knitting - thanks so much for sharing!

~droooool~Thanks for sharing. I for one, like lots of pics so I can show B, see? it's not just me. ;)

What about the homespun???

And by the way, when I post my sock yarn stash today, you will laugh at how small and pitiful it is...

Posted by: Margit at October 16, 2006 8:06 AM

See this is what suckers me - the sock yarn. *holds head and chants* I do not knit or wear socks. I do not knit or wear socks. I do not knit or wear socks. I do not knit or wear socks. I do not knit or wear socks.

Yay sock yarn!

I too never wore socks. My shoes were too small for socks. Now that I knit socks, I wear them and bought bigger shoes. What a sacrifice!

I love your stash!

what a beautifully huge stash! Lots of inspiration and color to pick from! :)

Posted by: stacey at October 16, 2006 10:10 AM

Absurdity, yes! Muhahahahaha.

Posted by: Cookie at October 16, 2006 11:38 AM

Wow...it's gorgeous! This is what I have to look forward to huh? Or I guess...what my husband has to look forward to. hehehe

So, according to my spreadsheet, these numbers are just the ones for pairs of socks:

1 Anne
2 Regia Bamboo
2 Claudia's
1 Louet (lilac/white)
3 random handpainted (2 from eBay, 1 by me)
1 Koigu KPM (neon pink, hehe)
2 Koigu KPPPM
3 random Lana Grossa
2 Opal
2 of Scout's handpainted
1 Lorna's (oh, the humanity!)
1 from Janice
2 Lisa Souza
2 Plymouth Sockotta (I'm almost ashamed of these)
15 STR lightweight
2 STR mediumweight
2 Cherry Tree Hill
19 Trekking

Which doesn't include some random singles (like, a skein of black Louet Gems Pearl and one KPPPM, which would be a great mosaic something...). So I think that's 63 pairs worth, if I did the math correctly.

Posted by: michelle at October 17, 2006 8:37 AM

That fleece artist is yummy! I had a blast (and the baby did too) at Purlescence. Thrilled to find the BMFA Seduction. Woot!

Posted by: Juls at October 18, 2006 10:21 PM
