Socktoberfest marches on!

Socktoberfest continues with my newest sock:

ASA1

It's A Step Above from Knitters Magazine, Summer 2004. I've been wanting to do these socks for quite some time. You see, Janice has made 4 pairs of these socks(!) each of them lovely, making me want to make at least one pair too!

This yarn is Socks that Rock in Saratoga. Cookie got me this yarn at Stitches Midwest in 2005. Wow, it seems like longer ago than that. I've tried a couple of things with this yarn, and I think the entrelac of this pattern is working the best.

I'm just a little entrelac happy these days, no?

Also, in the spirit of Socktoberfest, I am spinning up some new sock yarn with my Blue Moon Sheep2Shoe kit in Rooster Rock.

I took this:

BMFA Sheep2Sock kit in Rooster Rock

Split it into 3 sections and rolled them into balls:

bmfa merino1

And started spinning:

bmfa merino2

I'm so excited to spin this up! This is my first time dealing with merino, which I have been told is difficult to work with. I'll say that it's different to work with than the combed Corriedale I used last, and also different from the BFL I was using before that. But I think it drafts really well and I like the fluffy feeling as it goes through my fingers.

Comments

The socks look great and your sock yarn looks amazing. Wow, more photos like that might get me interested in spinning. No, no, cannot spin... must not spin. ;-)

Thanks for the mention and the 5(!) links. And can you believe it? I was wearing my camo ASA's and washing the STR ASA's when I was reading your blog post. ASA's are here, there, everywhere!

Man, thanks for the pic of the BMFA spinning kit, its beautiful looking! (I love the look of the asa's in str too, I have one that needs a mate and a new, longer toe... soon!) :)

(did I use enough acronyms?)

Those socks are starting off great, love that color. I'm loving the look of your spinning too, I think i need to dye my merino, it will be more inspiring to spin...

I keep scrolling up and down to look at the sock pic and then the spinning pic...they are both gorgeous

Who ever said merino is difficult to spin? I find it practically spins itself, especially superwash merino. In fact I keep wanting to dye my entire stock and spin it myself.

What a cool idea! I love the way the roving is spinning up - I'm thinking when it's plyed it may look like trekking a little bit? The new socks are looking great!

What beautiful fiber-- both the yarn and the roving. And I'm with Janice: Must not spin! (I don't have enough FOs to blog about as it is.)

That is spinning up beautifully! I love those colors....they are so fall!
Enterlac confuses the heck out of me. It is something that I KNOW won't make sense until someone sits in front of me and does it. Maybe even holds my hands on their needles or something! The socks are beautiful, and so is the shawl!

OK, looks like i'm gonna have to break down & do a sock or 2 for oct. Your yarn is gonna be awesome, can't wait to see it.

Both the spinning and knitting look fantastic. You really seem to like Entrelac. I have been too chicken to try it, but it looks so cool when you knit it. I imagine an entrelac sock is not the place to start. How did you learn how to do it? Is the pattern in scarf style a good learning project?

I really like that color. And the sock color! Although, now that I've seen pictures, I understand spinning less than I thought I did.

Your ASA socks and handspun look lovely! Entrelac is fun, no?
