Ah, that age old knitting question ...
Will I have enough yarn? I'm going with the "I'm just going to knit as quickly as possible so I can't run out of yarn" plan, with an auxillary plan of "Let me just weigh that one more time".
I'm not feeling well, and when I finally weighed the first sock about 30 minutes ago, it was a good thing a chair was close by ... the first sock weighs 58 grams! Given that the skeins are supposed to be 100 g, that was, well. Disconcerting. But then I weighed how much I have left in my ball: 22 g. And I weighed the sock-in-progress as best I could (magic loop method, and I don't have a spare pair of addis around to weigh). As near as I can figure, I have a 42-44 g sock currently. So ... I'm going to go back to the knitting. See plan A.
Oh, a couple people asked about the Cherry Tree Hill Mill Ends that I used on my Ripple and Weave socks and how different it is from regular Cherry Tree Hill (which I'm using on these cabled socks -- colorway: Old Rose). I believe the difference here is in the dye. The Ripple and Weave socks have a few tiny white spots where there was no color for about a half centimeter or so. Does it bother me? Yes, in theory. But when they're waaaaaay down on my feet, doesn't bother me one bit.
Ok, back to knitting as fast as I can so I can outrun this yarn ...
Thats so funny! I thought I was the only one that knit faster to try to outrun the yarn!
Posted by: Chrissy at September 24, 2006 12:30 PMWhat a beautiful sock! Gorgeous colorway. I'm always meaning to weigh my needles sans sock so that when I run into trouble, I can do the appropriate math. Have I yet remembered to weigh them? No. Good luck!
Posted by: Lazuli at September 24, 2006 1:14 PMI've found it also helps if you HIDE the remaining ball of yarn, under a pillow on the couch, inside a drawstring bag, and DON'T PEEK!!! If you can't see it, it can't run out as quickly...
Posted by: loribird at September 24, 2006 1:22 PMWow, it sure is nice to find out I'm not the only person to try and outrun my yarn, in fact I am partially doing so in the project sitting in my lap. Good luck, and I hope you do have enough yarn.
Posted by: Andrea at September 24, 2006 2:57 PMBeen there done that. ;-) Today in fact. With handspun so I couldn't order more. Luckily I got a reprieve and was able to finish.
The couple of times I've had this happen with socks, the second one received a different color toe. I actually really like it. Fingers crossed for you!
Posted by: Cara at September 24, 2006 6:43 PMThat sort of situation causes me so much anxiety that I now do BOTH socks, toe-up and two at a time on ONE circular. The one circular bit can be a bit tricky, but I prefer it to doing two at a time on two circulars....all those pesky ends dangling about!
Posted by: Marlene at September 24, 2006 7:30 PMWow, I use CTH potluck all the time because I love the sometimes more interesting colors and I've never had one that had white spots or was a "second" in any way. It was my understanding that the potluck isn't a second but is made with unique combinations of leftover dyes from the "regular" colors. If I got a skein with white spots, I would return it!
Your socks are gorgeous and Old Rose is one of my favorite "regular" colorways :)
