Lest you think I'm neurotic

I *swear* the sock that I posted pics of yesterday are truly fuzzy. I took 80 pictures of them in natural sunlight using a tripod to get those pictures to look that good. That pillow is there to put the sock at just the right angle in the lighting. AND I tried to trim off as much of the fuzz as I could with scissors. Yes, that's right. Scissors. What I'm saying is that the sock doesn't look nearly as good in real life as it does in that photograph.

So fine, maybe I am neurotic enough to go through and do that just to photograph a sock I'm going to rip out. But I'm not imagining the fuzz! And to prove that I'm not being neurotic about the fuzz, I just snapped a couple more pictures of the sock. The light settings are definitely off this time, so it's brighter and not the right color, but let's ignore that. So here I present to you evidence of fuzz:

Ok, I admit it! The fuzz doesn't photograph! Maybe it's vampiric in origin. That would explain so much now, wouldn't it? At the very least, if I can fix the biasing problem, it seems the sock is photogenic so I might as well go ahead with the pattern (but not for Knitty since I already posted pics for it, and I ended up submitting a different already). I'm going to try dropping down the increases and mirroring them on one side to see if that fixes the biasing. Another possible culprit is the decreases which I mirrored as ssk and k2tog, but since this sock is done using twisted stitches, I wonder if that affects the decreasing methods I should use. Or it could be the twist of the yarn. So many possible problems to try fixing! I guess I'll view it as a learning experience.

Oh yes, and if you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend Lupe and Shawnee Do the Big City, the best yarnography EVER.

Having seen the sock (not in the light of day ... mwah hah hah hah), I can say that yes, it is fuzzy.

Twisted stitches. That's why it's biasing! I swear, scout's honor.

Fuzzy or not the pattern looks really cool so I hope that you publish it somewhere.

The pattern is so pretty that maybe you should knit it with a different yarn?? :-)

That's a fabulous stitch pattern! IIRC, in Aran Knitting, Alice Starmore finds fault with twisted ribbing in the round, saying that it will bias. I don't know if that's what's going on with your sock. After all your pattern is so much more complicated than ribbing. But perhaps it's something to look into.

Cheers!
