She popped the baby out during a pre-planned home birth. It's all very exciting, and her husband posted a picture of her in the pool with the baby (a boy named Stefan) post-birth. I gotta say, I know birthing is supposed to be a beautiful thing and all that (though I am personally TERRIFIED of the idea (*especially* the prospect of vaginal tearing)), but I am totally impressed with that picture. I wouldn't have the guts to do that.
I'm right there with you -- I only see the horror and pain of childbirth.

Posted by: Gina at January 19, 2006 10:57 AMThey say you are supposed to forget the pain of childbirth. They never saw the size of my son's head. I can still remember the day he was born. He is 8 years old now. His head gets bigger every day......... Not to scare anybody...... But I am never doing it again.

Posted by: beth at January 19, 2006 1:42 PMWhile I didn't make it to the "natural birthing" part, I did have contractions (no drugs) and push for 2 hours and although I remember the screaming and cursing, I don't remember the pain. I didn't want to go through it again, however.
That's great news about Abigail!
Posted by: Elspeth at January 20, 2006 6:47 PMJust for the record I had no vaginal tearing either time and yes, I did forget the pain! During my labor with Niels I remember thinking, "I am never doing this again!" and during this labor I actually thought to myself, "I had forgotten how much this hurts" but there you go. I did it again and I'm already starting to forget about the pain. It's those wonderful hormones. :)
Personally, I was more afraid of being in a hospital where someone who I might not even know gets to come in and tell me what to do during an incredibly vulnerable time than I was to birth at home with an attendant I knew very well and my family around me. But that's just me. :)
