Because sometimes you need mindless knitting

My weekend kind of sucked. It included cat fights (literally), bad movies, lack of sleep, cleaning, furniture building, and missing knitting. Somehow in all my cleaning and rearranging, I managed to misplace my Katrina Rib, so now I don't know where it is. AGH!!!! At least there was some mindless knitting:

The first pair is made from Cherry Tree Hill Supersock millends on size 1 needles. The specks of light color that you see are from where the dye didn't take completely. Overall, I think the millend is pretty good, and the light flecks look kind of neat. I did see other millends on Ebay that had much worse dyeing jobs (huge chunks of noticeably undyed portions), so I'm guessing they vary quite a bit.

The second pair is KPPPM on size 2. The weird little bit of pooling on the left sock kind of bugs me, but not enough to do anything about it. I started these a really long time ago when I was in Toronto and finally finished the toe on the second sock. FOs! Woot!

Katrina Rib update: General Growth will do double matching for the whole month of September. After that I'm not sure what to do with the pattern. I guess I'll donate the rest unmatched to the Red Cross as I'm sure Katrina's effects will last much longer than one month.

I am excited that some locals are knitting the pattern, so I can witness the process (and possibly the agony, though I really hope not)! Some of you have asked about yarn substitution. Here's what I got. Jaeger Extra Fine Merino DK is a *lot* like Filatura di Crosa Zara. Other possibilities could be Rowan Cashsoft DK, Knitpicks Merino Style, or Debbie Bliss Merino DK. Rowan Calmer might work for those allergic to wool, but the gauge is slightly different resulting in a slightly bigger sweater. Karabella Aurora 8 is a bit thicker, and Aurora 4 seems a bit thin.

Comments

I love your new socks, especially the KPPPM ones. Very yummy.

I ordered some of this (http://tinyurl.com/9kot8) from Elann and I have my fingers crossed that it's nice and soft and what not. I like the Calmer suggestion, though. That could be a very good thing. And I have some that I might have to swatch.

What bad movies did you see?

Oh, and I heard estimates of 3 months to get New Orelans back on its feet, so I'm sure that any donations a month from now will still be needed!

I'll eventually make it in Calmer. I have no idea when mind you ;)

Mindless knitting is sometimes the perfect remedy for crappy times. Love the socks, socks make for happy feet, which hopefully will eventually make it's way to making a happy heart.

So far I'm not sure how it will work (it seems not sturdy enough, maybe), but I'm using Filatura di Crosa 510.

Also, I don't think I could do a series of matches, but definitely a one time thing, so let me know if you need it and we'll donate it through BR's work.
