Katrina Rib Pattern

[ UPDATE 2/7/06: I've created a new page for the Katrina Rib. Please see that page for the most updated information. The 200% employer matching program is not longer in effect. 100% of all proceeds will still go to the American Red Cross, but there is no longer a 200% employer matching program. I have also installed PayLoadz to automate pattern download immediately, so you don't have to wait for me to email them out. ]

I've finished the pattern for Blueberry Rib and have renamed it to Katrina Rib. The pattern can be purchased using Paypal for $5, and 100% of the money will be donated to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina aid. I will also match 100% of the first 30 patterns sold.

Katrina Rib is a form fitting sweater. The traveling rib down the front center panel accentuates the wearers curves.

Size

  • S/M for chest size 32-39
  • L/XL for chest size 38-45

There is some overlap in sizing because the finished sweater is very stretchy. If you are in the overlap area, make the smaller size if you want a more body hugging sweater. In particular, if your waist measurement is significantly smaller than your bust measurement, I recommend making the smaller size.

Materials

  • 24 circular size 6 needle
  • One set of double pointed size 6 needles
  • 5 (7) balls Jaeger Extra Fine Merino DK OR 650 (850) yards of DK weight yarn
  • Stitch holders
  • 10 stitch markers

Notes on Yarn substitution: When substituting, use a stretchy DK weight yarn (5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch). Alpaca, silk, linen, rayon, and cotton are insufficiently stretchy unless mixed with more elastic fibers.

Skill Level

Intermediate. Skills needed: knitting in the round, knitting the knits, purling the purls, ribbing, increasing, decreasing, provisional cast on.

Gauge

22 stitches and 32 rows per 4x4 square in stockinette stitch

You may purchase this pattern using PayPal. The pattern will be in pdf file format. Please post any questions here, or email me.

I've also made a button. Right click to download to your server.

Thank you in advance to anyone who is donating Hurricane Katrina Aid.

That is very cool, Cookie! I just purchased it. I'll probably make a third size and add sleeves. I'll let you know what my pattern ends up being, if you like. :)

I would have bought it anyway, since it is so gorgeous, but I love the idea of giving more to the relief effort. Thanks for doing this!

Cookie - I loved the pattern, thought it was great that you were donating to Katrina Relief, but was blown away when I saw that you were sending the money through General Growth! As an employee of GGP, with friends located at our affected centers in Louisiana, thank you.

Thank you for this pattern. I look forward to doing it. I am going to make it for a friend who lost everything in Katrina. It warms my heart to see how generous knitters are in general. Thank you again for doing this.

I got your pattern a few weeks ago and have been working on it slowly. It is really a smart, well-designed pattern--i am enjoying knitting it.
