Cool stuff

1. Thank you for all the comments about the Blueberry Rib! For those of you volunteering to test knit different sizes, I thought I'd let you know that the sweater is *very* stretchy. I expanded my dress form to a 38" bust, and it fit comfortably. I then took the sweater to knitting last night and asked if there were any 38" busted women willing to try it on. Shannon, despite being severely allergic to wool, tried it on. She is a 39", and it was very flattering, if I must say so myself. I'm going to look into making two sizes available: S/M (the one I knit) and L/XL (for 38-45" chests approx).

2. I joined the Dual Disc Debacle, a double mix CD swap. I'm excited about it! I already have a bunch of songs I want to include. And some CDs I bought recently are still sitting on my desk unopened. I'm trying to avoid mix-making anxiety. What if my swap partners hate my music? Ah well, I'll dismiss them as having poor taste. :-)

3. Gene. So K and I met Gene and Lew at the TKGA Fiberarts Market last month and had a blast. Gene and I talked about the Tricot D'art lace magazines we had, and an exchange was arranged. We thought they would be the same magazines, but they aren't. Gene was so excited to have found something new that he started knitting a pattern from it right away. Lo and behold, he has finished and blocked it already! The pattern is Liseron from the Tricot D'art No. 2 I sent him.

4. And all this time I didn't know Gene was famous. Gracie (founder of the Lacy Knitters Guild) showed us a couple FiberTrends patterns that Gene had designed. So yesterday, I did a google search on Gene (google Eugen Beugler) to see if I could find those patterns. Well holy cow, I didn't know Gene was such an avid lace designer. I am so impressed! Not only did he design this, this and this, but he also designed two of the patterns in A Gathering of Lace: the Feather and Fan shawl and Frost Flowers and Leaves (which has a KAL no less). In fact, he's described as "World-famous knitwear designer" here. And best of all looky here. That Gene sure is a charmer.

Comments

Wow, I just bought Gene's Spring Blossoms Shawl this weekend! He's designed some great things.

Where do you get these great lace design books/magazines? I might not have a much use for doilies, but they would be fun to knit.

Mary and I met Gene in Oakland as well, and he couldn't say enough nice things about you two. He was very excited about the prospect of exchanging patterns and it sounds like it was well worth it.

BTW, love the Blueberry Rib!

That Liseron is *gorgeous*! Is that publication still in print? Gene is truly a sweetheart, I'm glad you got to know him.

All I got was watery eyes and a bit of a sore throat! Calmer is 20 st to 4", and has that 25% microfiber. It may be a good sub for us non woolies.

Hey, I just read the Bios in the back of A Gathering of Lace this weekend & saw Gene's name there. I'm thrilled to learn that the feller I met at TKGA is not just an accomplished lace *knitter* but a creative lace designer. Thanks for the info!
