Okay, the title's not exciting, but it certainly is descriptive.
Cookie and I (heh, I finally can use her full name!) headed up to Oakland for the TKGA Fiber Arts Market last Friday. Spinnity has posted a nice write-up talking about some of the ups and downs of the TKGA conference. Our experience was generally positive, though the one complaint I have is that $7 to get into the market when it's about a quarter the size of Stitches was a bit much. But I guess I should join the TKGA and it would have been free and that would have been fine.
Anyway, Cookie and I were both pretty good at the market. I bought only one HUGE skein of yarn. It is half a pound of beautiful sock yarn from Carolina Homespun. Et voila ...
This color is pretty true on my monitor -- it is yellow, orange and rose. And beautiful. Did I mention beautiful?
Ok, I lied, I also bought one skein of Misti Alpaca laceweight but that was only because I needed it to finish a secret project, so that hardly counts ...
Cookie bought something from Habu, so you should beg her to show off. Or look at Knitflix's blog, I think it's the same thing.
The highlight of the trip was meeting some of the other members of the Lacy Knitters Guild. When we found their table, Gene and Lew were busy talking to a TV crew(!), but when that was over, we got to talk to them and share our love of lacy knitting. Both Gene and Lew were just delightful and just the type of knitters we like -- excited about their craft and wanting to share their knowledge with everyone.
Also, we stopped by Lacis in Berkeley via the BART. Cookie got a book on bobbin lace, which I really need to take a look at soon. We also had a personal guided tour by Jules, one of the owners, it was great.
All in all, a good day.
Love that sock yarn! I'm a sucker for those colors everytime...can't wait to see what you create!
Posted by: Meredith at July 27, 2005 10:20 AMHey, you are totally right.. that is exactly the same yarn Janice bought from the Habu booth. And we had a lovely time chatting with Gene and Lew as well -- they love you guys! Lew was expressing difficulty most people have finding lace patterns for yarn as fine as that bamboo from Habu.. and we 'splained that we shouldn't have any trouble: we know C & K!
I enjoyed the market, too. Maybe I was too harsh on the conference, generally. We now think they did NOT charge us twice, but simply failed to take our registration the first time, despite generating confirmation email as a receipt. Feh! :-)
