I finally started in on my Fair Isle project a couple of weeks ago. I sort of knew there was a problem early on, but decided to trudge forward just to see if maybe I was wrong. Those of you who swatch your Fair Isle will probably laugh at me, but I just thought these colors would look nice together! I did! Call me crazy! But it turns out I didn't do such a good job with putting the colors together in the right order (plus, really, a fingerless glove is pretty much just a regular-sized swatch, so I still think this was reasonable).
Ok, so this is what it looks like:
The green in the middle of everything is just too BRIGHT! And the dark green and the dark brown just don't contrast enough to really see the dark green in any sort of normal lighting.
Here's a close-up in poorer lighting:
So C is trying to fix things by buying me some yellow yarn to go in there (new yarn fixes all badness). But I guess it's off to swatch-land I go to get a better idea of how color mixing works in Fair Isle.
Oh, and also to soothe my color needs, I ordered about 10 more colors of sock yarn from Herrschner's. I just thought it might help.
I have more things to post about, but I need to get going! Oh, I just ordered a camera, finally, so maybe I can even post with better regularity soon!
That pattern is pretty cool. And you could really consider that your swatch.
Posted by: Laura at May 4, 2005 4:12 PMHmm. . .you asked me for what I think, but I'm not sure about what? About yellow? I like yellow. And it's my favorite color! Just like it's Andy's favorite color. So if I marry someone whose favorite color is yellow, my mom can just make us the same pillows. Except she wouldn't because I'm not marrying Andy, and she won't care as much. Also probably not getting married at all, but whatever.
Anyway, I like yellow, but wouldn't it be as bright as the green? I don't mind the bright green, either, but I see that you're trying to go authentic Fair Isle, and they didn't use the bright green. I love the pattern. I think that covers all the bases of what you might have wanted to know.
