fiber frenzy recap, pt. 2

In which C and K take a break from yarn stores to get some free fabric!

We started Wednesday with a plan, but it didn't go quite the way we planned. I thought we would get to many Peninsula/South Bay yarn stores, but we only made it to the Menlo Park Knitter's Studio. I am a big fan of their clearance bins. I always find something of use there.

This time, I found the perfect yarn for my friend Sherie's poncho.

Lookie here:

This is Lane Borgosesia Galicia in Color 65. It's red with flecks of orange and purple. The yarn is made of 88% wool and 12 % nylon.

Et voila! Here is a picture of what the beginning of the poncho looks like. It is done in Turkish stitch.

I have four balls of the yarn and I'm currently a little ways into the 2nd ball.

After the store, we went to lunch with Sherie, where I checked with her as to whether she actually liked the yarn choice. Fortunately she did. Or maybe unfortunately ... I wouldn't mind having this yarn for myself! By the way, as I drove to lunch, C sat in the passenger seat fondling this yarn. It feels nice.

After lunch, we drove to my friend Hannah's house where she let us go through 24 large boxes of fabric that she was giving away. This took mucho time. I think we were there for 3 or 4 hours, but I really started to lose track. The only minus of all of this free fabric is that it takes away from our knitting time.

C's suitcase was full of fabric instead of yarn on the way home. I found myself taking home a huge bag of fabric, mostly cotton for use in Christmas presents. Where am I going to put all of this?

After dinner, C and I went to Walmart and JoAnn's. No, we didn't get any more fabric. But we did get a book so we could get some ideas about what to do with our fabric -- it's a book about purses. We also picked up our size 17s for our Meatheads and some other needles and various things.

We spent the evening knit knit knitting away ...

Stay tuned for Thursday's recap, in which I splurge!
