swatch turned scarf

After finishing the hoodie, I needed to knit something while waiting for my massive yarn order from WEBS, so I decided to try a swatch for the massive grey cabled coat in Norsk Strikkedesign. I double stranded some grey wool-alpaca and began on size 9 needles. It's narrower and longer than the pattern calls for, but that's good because the pattern only comes in medium, and shortening is easy. Not that I'm going to tackle this thing anytime soon.

Anyway. The "swatch" is turning into a scarf. I think it's kinda pretty, but I wouldn't use the grey (actually, I think it's charcoal) for this coat because you can't see the cabling so well.

Well, E is in town, and we're having a good mostly non-knitting time. Tonight we'll be having a DDR party. Heehee.

Oh yeah, that WEBS order. It arrived today! I'm now anxiously swatching some of the 2/8 wool-cashmere blend I got. I'm sad that after I ordered, they listed that the 2/4 size was on sale as well. I probably would have gotten some of that. However, the dark red is actually fairly dark. More like the picture they have in the 2/4 section than the 2/8 picture which is brighter. I really like the charcoal which has specks of white in it. Too bad they don't have that in the 2/4 size because I think it would make a good man sweater.

After I swatch the other Valley yarns, I'll have to comment on how they turn out post-washing.

So like what weight are 2/4 and 2/8? I may have worked with it, but it might have been called something else (?). Is it tiny?

The 2/8 is fairly tiny. I was getting just over 6 stitches per inch on size 5 needles. The 2/4 should be worsted weight, but I didn't get any. I like the 2/8 so far. It's easier to work with pre-washing than the wool-alpaca blend I used for my hoodie.
