So let's see. Last week, I went yarn shopping with K. I bought some yarn at Midwest Discount Yarns. One was a nice lemongrass colored wool blend (the picture doesn't really do the color justice) that I knit into a scarf using garter and vertical drop stitch. The second was a wool/linen blend in greens. I just started knitting an online diagonal scarf pattern I found. And the third was an icelandic type wool in white. I am combining that with the Barrington mohair that I got in our WEBS shipment to make a jacket with... BOBBLES!!!
Also, I have been dyeing up a storm. Here's some of them. The bright yellow is huge skein of the R&M wool. The rest are 4/8 from WEBS. I like the blue, but there's a little bit of white in there (a mistake, but let's just call it variegation instead). I had a really hard time trying to get the blue to be an even color because I needed to mix turquoise with some fuschia to get a truer blue color, and I wanted it to be light, but instead the colors sort of separated and didn't dye evenly. I also wanted the pink to be lighter, but I like it anyway.
Much of my dyeing craze has been motivated by a desire to felt. I dyed some orange yarn using the 4/8 wool from WEBS and knit a purse. I also added some yellow yarn I had from before that I dyed using spinach. Here is a picture of the leftover balls. And the second pic is the purse so far. I want to make a lining for it with the yellow cloth underneath.
And also, I dyed some bright green yarn. It's really bright, but when I did a test felt, it yellowed a bit in the process, so I think the color will be more lime-like which is what I was aiming for. After I started knitting, I realized I didn't have anywhere near enough yarn, so I tried dyeing some more last night. Trying to match colors is supposed to be hard, but I think this will be okay. The ball on the left is the original. The hank is the second batch. The second batch is slightly more yellow, but I think if I separate the two with a yellow stripe, hopefully the color difference will be undetectable. The last picture is to give an idea of how big this sucker is. It's 20 inches wide, knit with double strands of the R&M wool on size 10.5 needles (that's 5 dps and a 16" circular because I don't have any circulars large enough that are in the 8-13 size range).
Oh, and I just dyed this tonight! It's still a little damp, but I think it's pretty. It was a dark red (on the yellow side), but then I decided I wanted it more saturated and on the blue side, so I overdyed it with fuschia.
