Concert update

The Insatiable One feels that the public should know that Aimee Mann and Sigur Rós are now touring the US. The Insatiable One is quite happy that Saint Etienne is also on tour again.

That is all.

In Vino Veritas

Part 2 in the ever continuing blog catch-up series...

This weekend, I took my first trip (together with Brian & co.) out to the local vineyards in Augusta, MO. It was a different than what I expected having only been to more...how should I put it...elitist wine events: much more of a party, hang out, have a good time atmosphere. Additionally, the wines produced there seem to be geared more towards immediate gratification/consumption than other wine producing regions: lots of young wines (I don't think I noticed any older than a year) including a number of berry wines. I ended up picking up a bottle of Montelle St. Wenceslaus (a sweet spiced red that reminded me a bit of wassail), an Augusta Winery 2001 Seyval Blanc (a neutral white) and an Augusta Winery 2001 Vignoles (a sweeter white).

Also, the area that the vineyards were located in was just spectacularly gorgeous. There was hill after hill of beautiful autumn colors. It's definitely worth driving out there just to see the scenery if you're in the area around this time of year.

All in all, it was an excellent way to spend an afternoon.

Back and to the left

This is part one of a continuing series of catch-up entries.

Last weekend, I took a NetSaver down to Dallas to visit Bobo. It was my first trip down to Tay-ha, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect asides from getting some good hardcore hanging around time with Bobo.

While down there, I saw Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (Spirited Away), stood on the grassy knoll, went to a mall with valet parking(!), visited the Dallas World Aquarium and ate what was probably the best steak of my life at Trail Dust. But most importantly, I played with Bobo's seemingly hypoallergenic kitties, Trouble & Baby.

Overall, I have to say that it was cool visiting Dallas and had a most excellent weekend visiting Bobo, but it was just too suburban sprawl for my tastes.

And...thanks for being an good host Bobo.

Feeding the habit, one utensil at a time

I have such incredibly poor self control when it comes to kitchen stuff. This time it was at Target. I went in for a pie pan & set of bamboo steamers to go with my newly acquired wok and ended up purchasing a skimmer and a masher as well. As you can tell, my little kitchen tribe of implements is growing...muahahaha...

"It was the next logical step..."

As some of you may know, I got red highlights in my hair a few months ago.

Today, I took it to the next level: I had all of my hair bleached/dyed a nice slightly brighter shade of red/violet. Jeannie - mein hairstylist - says, "This is too cool!" I'll see what I can do getting some pictures up to showcase the new mop on my head.

Motherly Cuisine

For those of you that don't know, my mom parental is an excellent chef. Over the years, she's acquired a unique knack for making delicious meals that aren't overly heavy, but perfectly filling. This weekend at the parents' place was no exception: a traditional Korean dinner featuring galbi perfectly cooked and a breakfast/lunch featuring a tri-cheese quiche-like creation c/w a balsamic vinegar dressed southwestern-style bean salad.

However, the best part of my mom's cooking/going home is taking back food. Coming home and having a reheatable, "dare I say gourmet" meal after the usual 8 hour routine is such bliss.

It has begun

Today I got my first blog spam comment. Sadness. It has since been expunged and the offending IP banned. I hope this isn't the first signs of a massive spam deluge...

Of course, Toe Knee was kind enough to mimic that comment's great style so it will be preserved for future generations.

Aspects of a Seattle Weekend

When air travel works, it can work quite well. My flights on this trip were one example of it. Both flights departed on time. The seats (American for the curious) were comfortable, and I was actually able to get some studying in. After a relatively short 3 hr 40 mins, I was over 2000 miles from my original location.

The trip before (which has been documented before) was a veritable nightmare: one delayed flight forcing rerouting the entire trip through several other cities, including one near-heart stopping episode where I made it on to the plane in the middle of the safety presentation. Top off with delays on every other leg.

This weekend was the first time in a long while that I've cooked for friends. It's such a different experience putting your wares on show, trying to coordinate dishes into well-organized meal. I must admit that it didn't turn out quite as well as I wanted it to for one reason (foreign kitchen) or another (total grand experiment), but the overall result seems to have turned out alright: both N-E & DeLish seemed to enjoy it (or hid their disgust very well *grin*).

The menu, in case anyone is curious, is as follows:

Theater is such a joy. With the addition of the Annex Theatre production Stage Door (sound op'd by our dear DeLish), I've seen a grand sum of 3 plays in my entire life, but I certainly plan on making an effort on seeing more. There's something about the live performance aspect of most any art that appeals to me.

Perhaps there might be something interesting showing at the Rep...

N-E has one of the most evilly large collection of movies. It isn't nowhere near close to being outrageously big or large, but it's just filled with interesting things to watch. Without fail, every trip seems to bring on vast amounts of movie watching till the wee hours of the morn.

The movies I can remember watching are...

Recovery is such evil. Although I had what can only be labelled "SUPER FANTABULOUS MEGA FUN" during my stay in Seattle, 5 am nights c/w a two hour timezone difference can really wreak havoc on your system. I must admit that I was surprised that I actually followed through with original plan to run this evening after work. Of course, I'm feeling remarkably dead now; I'm not expecting to be in any time early tomorrow morning.
