In Vino Veritas

Part 2 in the ever continuing blog catch-up series...

This weekend, I took my first trip (together with Brian & co.) out to the local vineyards in Augusta, MO. It was a different than what I expected having only been to more...how should I put it...elitist wine events: much more of a party, hang out, have a good time atmosphere. Additionally, the wines produced there seem to be geared more towards immediate gratification/consumption than other wine producing regions: lots of young wines (I don't think I noticed any older than a year) including a number of berry wines. I ended up picking up a bottle of Montelle St. Wenceslaus (a sweet spiced red that reminded me a bit of wassail), an Augusta Winery 2001 Seyval Blanc (a neutral white) and an Augusta Winery 2001 Vignoles (a sweeter white).

Also, the area that the vineyards were located in was just spectacularly gorgeous. There was hill after hill of beautiful autumn colors. It's definitely worth driving out there just to see the scenery if you're in the area around this time of year.

All in all, it was an excellent way to spend an afternoon.
