Workout: Yoga for Energy
Author: chaos
Decided to try out the Yoga for Energy workout again today. I’ve done it once before, a long time ago… I obviously didn’t remember much about it, or I might have been a little more hesitant in tackling it tonight. Hmmm. I just read my entry about it, and it probably wasn’t as informative as it could have been. Anyway, the first section was pretty simple, a little bit of a warmup, nothing more. Actually, that’s not entirely true. It did have a leg stretch in it, which I wasn’t sure I quite liked, particularly since the hamstrings hadn’t been warmed up at all at that point. Anyway, the second section was a weird side to side flow of poses. Not that weird, really… it’s very similar to the flow Rodney uses in his introduction to the Yoga for Strength video. But none of the other workouts I’ve done have ever done the sequence in that manner. Anyway, it was all familiar poses, although the timing was a little too fast for someone not familiar with the particular sequence. Unless I do this workout again soon, I’m definitely going to want to watch it before the next time I do it, so I have a better idea of what’s coming. The third section was a little more familiar in terms of sequencing, it basically did a normal sun salutation style sequencing. It still seemed a little bit fast, and the three upward bows at the end were a surprise. But overall, I was pretty comfortable with that section. The fourth section was forward bending. I think there was a brief backbend at the end, but everything else was a forward bend of one type or another. A lot of them were crosslegged forward bends, but there was a normal seated forward bend, wide angle seated forward bend, one-legged seated forward bend, and a few half lotus seated forward bends. I didn’t attempt those as such, because I have grown rather fond of having my knees attached to my body properly. I was studying the position at one point, and have to admit that I don’t quite comprehend how it works. My legs just don’t move like that, as far as I can tell. The last section was just relaxation pose, with a little bit of meditation, perhaps. I think I’ll probably go watch the video again sometime soon, and see if I can pick up some pointers, but I’m not sure that I’ll necessary do the workout again any time soon. It might be right for a special type of mood, but it just didn’t feel like enough of a workout to get me excited about it. I’m still trying to migrate my workouts to a slightly earlier schedule, but it’s a slow process. I may make a concerted effort tomorrow, though, and try to get intermediate yoga in.

Workout: Yoga for Energy
Author: chaos
I was in the mood to try something a little bit different tonight, so I decided to give the yoga for energy workout a try. It’s actually on the video owned by fellow author mlee (although, admittedly, you wouldn’t necessarily know he’s an author if I didn’t keep bringing it up), so I have had relatively little opportunity to do it before. Although I typically like to watch videos like this at least once before trying them, I just decided to go ahead and dive in tonight, for some reason. It went reasonably well… going into the workout, I knew that it should be in five sections, and that the auditory cues would be fairly minimal. Both of these things were true, the auditory cues being perhaps more minimal than ideal. Of course, I don’t believe the workout is really intended to be done ideally the first couple of times you do it, so perhaps once you’re a little more familiar with the routine, the reduced instruction helps you focus. Most of the poses were familiar, the only completely new one to me being the revolved triangle pose. I didn’t quite get that one, as the video was moving quickly enough that I was having a bit of trouble keeping up at that point, due to my unfamiliarity. Everything else I had done before, although I couldn’t do half-lotus forward bends, of course. I was a little surprised to have three upward bows during the course of the workout, but those all went well enough, as well as the half moon poses and warrior III poses. Overall, it seems like it was a fairly satisfactory workout, if not terribly aerobic. I’m sure I’ll be getting back to it again at some point, probably in the next few months while I still have relatively ready access to it.
