Workout: Free Form
Author: chaos
Did the anticipated light stretching workout today. Actually, it wasn’t quite as light as I’ve done a number of times before ultimate. I did six sun salutation sequences in total, incorporating triangle, side stretch, warrior I, and warrior II into the last four sequences. I also did some jump transitions instead of lunge transitions, and threw in a few powerful poses as well. I felt like there was something pretty good about my warrior I today, but I’m not entirely certain how to describe it. Just the positioning felt good. I finished everything off with some actual stretches, forward bend from cobbler’s pose, wide angle seated forward bend, a boat pose, and a seated forward bend. I meant to do a few reclining leg stretches, but I forgot when I got to that point. Oh, I did also do one of the stretches from one of the YCfA mini workouts, possibly the all sports workout. Top knee crosses over the bottom leg, arm matching bottom leg holds the top knee, twisting in the direction of the bottom foot. It’s a good hip stretcher. Closed with reclining twist and relaxation pose. Overall, I went a little faster than I usually do, but that’s just the way I felt like doing it. Anyway, hopefully this will have set me up for the full day of activity ahead.

Workout: Power Yoga: Total Body
Author: chaos
I was originally planning on making this a full workout, but I just really didn’t seem to be in the workout today. I was going through the motions, and that was fine, until I started doing the warrior II poses. Then my legs started feeling fatigued, even on the first one, which is very rare. I don’t know if I just wasn’t in quite the right position tonight or what, but whatever the case, I decided to just do the short version, first and last section. That was okay… I modified the one twist into a version that’s less potentially damaging to the knee, and I also skipped the one legged forward bend with the right leg. It really doesn’t seem to be healing all that much, even though I’ve been trying not to strain it. Maybe I really need to avoid any strain of it whatsoever, and that will help. Perhaps I’ll try that out for a week or so and see if that seems to make it better.
My head has been very cloudy the last week or so. I’m finding it very difficult to get out of the mental fog that I’ve been in. I really think that I just need to take a day or two off from… stuff. Unfortunately, I really don’t know when I’m going to have time to do that. It wouldn’t be so bad if I were better at letting things go, but I’m really not good at that at all. Of course, it could just be that I need some more rest. Anyway, I’ll quite likely just do something laid back tomorrow, like abs or something, and hopefully spend at least a little time relaxing.

Workout: Abs Conditioning: Yoga
Author: chaos
Still in the unpacking/rearranging process. I suppose this will probably be true for a while yet, at least until the end of this week. But I suppose at the end of all this, I can look forward to not moving again for at least two years. So that’s something.
Went for a relatively short walk tonight. That was nice… the temperature was very pleasant, and the streets weren’t obnoxiously lit. A somewhat rare combination, it seems. After getting back, it was time to get a workout in, so I fired up the ol’ abs disc. In retrospect, a stretching workout might have been better, since my hamstrings are fairly sore for reasons that I’m not entirely certain of. It might have to do with moving boxes, though. Anyway. Tonight’s workout was definitely not one of my top ones… really just wasn’t quite feeling the groove, as it were. All the motions were fine, although I felt like I was arching my back too much on the leg lowering/lifting segments. Actually, not really arching my back, flexing my buttocks. Either way, doing something I shouldn’t have been, although the latter is better than the former. Still, another somewhat iffy workout. I’ll try to get back towards morning workouts in the next day or two, I think, which might help me feel that I’m more ready for the workouts. Apparently I don’t like doing the last minute workouts all that much.

Workout: Yoga for Strength: session 1
Author: chaos
This was my first workout on the hardwood floor at the new place. I don’t know that there’s anything particularly significant about this fact, other than it means that I’ll be doing most of my workouts on hardwood in the future.
The workout was fairly decent. I couldn’t decide what workout to do for a while, but once I thought of this workout, quickly realized that it was the one that I wanted to do. It was reasonably rewarding… I felt like I was focused through the vinyasa sequence, the shoulderstand was pretty good, and I may have gained a little insight into the leg stretches, specifically about not tightening into them. So all that was fairly good.
Anyway, that’s all for now. A few errands to be run tomorrow, DSL will hopefully be installed, and ultimate will hopefully be played. Lots to be done in the next few weeks, but if I can survive all that, I should be fairly much golden. Until then, I’ll probably largely be stuck on the single workout schedule, but I’ll start breaking into some more challenging stuff if I get the chance.

Workout: Power Yoga: Total Body
Author: chaos
Went with the beginning of total body as my warm up for ultimate again today. Again, I had some trouble really getting into the workout. I’ve just been feeling a bit… fatigued, or something, lately. Just doing the first section was causing me a bit of fatigue, and it really shouldn’t be. Oh well. Nothing much more to say about it… I did notice that my back was aching a little in a few of the poses, downward dog in particular. That’s really rather odd… I don’t know if it was some of the furniture moving I did yesterday, or if it was from the yoga session. I’m sure it’ll probably be gone tomorrow, but it’s still kind of odd. Anyway, hopefully I’ll start breaking out of this slump soon.

Workout: Power Yoga: Flexibility

I actually convinced my partner to join me for the workout tonight. I can’t really say that she hasn’t been willing in recent workouts, since I haven’t really asked for the most part. I just assume that when I mention it, she’ll join me if she wants. But I actually asked today, and she went ahead and did it.
It was a decent workout for me. I was feeling pretty good about my asanas, even if I was feeling a little stiff. I actually didn’t notice that much, except for the forward bends over the straightened leg while standing. Then I really noticed my hamstrings were tight. I’m not too sure why, but my muscles have been feeling a bit off for the past week or so, so I might not need a specific reason. Ultimate didn’t end up actually happening yesterday, unfortunately, but at least I got a nice walk in going down to the park and back.
My eating has been pretty bad for the last few weeks, at least in terms of consuming enough calories, or in the right proportions. It was a little better today, although still not outstanding. I think I’ll probably eat some pasta in a little bit, though, which should definitely help get things closer to a good amount for the day. I might have a protein drink as well, since I’m almost certainly short there. Anyway, the outlook for the next couple of weeks isn’t all that great, but I’m just going to have to keep plugging at it, and hopefully make it through with minimal loss in any areas of interest.

Workout: Free Form
Author: chaos
I’m going to go check out a different pickup ultimate game today, so I went with another stretching workout. This one was a free form one, just a slightly variant of the one I’ve done the last couple of free form stretching workouts. I did 6 sun salutations, straight for the first two, then incorporating triangle, warrior I, side stretch, and warrior II. I was curious to see if the order would really make any difference… I don’t believe that it did. I did potentially gain some insight into the warrior poses today, keeping a lot more of my weight on my back leg, which is in theory what’s supposed to be done. I think the trouble that I’ve always had with that in the past is that my hips have been very tight, so that was too uncomfortable for me to do. I did feel a little tightness in my hips, but just to the point of knowing it was there, not an actual discomfort. Hopefully this will allow me to more fully get into these poses in the future. I finished off with a little stretching, seated forward bend followed by leg stretches and relaxation pose. I don’t really know what to expect tonight, but the general impression I’ve gotten is that this group is a little more serious than the other pickup groups I’ve played with, so I’m probably in for a good workout.

Workout: Abs Conditioning: Yoga
Author: chaos
I probably should have gotten to the this workout earlier in the day, but I was procrastinating. Just in general, not the workout in particular. I do less of that these days, but that still leaves plenty of room for procrastination.
Anyway, it was a pretty decent workout. I really need to start doing the pilates abs workout again, I think that I’d be much better now. Or at least, my form would be much better, and it would be more effective. I was focusing fairly decently today, and was avoiding some of the bad form I exhibited the last time I did this workout. Whatever. It was a reasonable workout, nothing spectacular, but good to get in.
My right knee is refusing to heal. It’s really beginning to irritate me with that refusal. Perhaps I should wear a brace on it or something to remind myself not to use it as much, but that seems silly, since I don’t really need it. I wonder if keeping it warmer would do the trick, though. Although I don’t really think there’s been a problem with it being cold, so I don’t know. Maybe I will have to see a doctor at some point. I should really get over my tendency to avoid doctors, anyway. Well, that’s it for now. I’ll probably try and get my workout in somewhat earlier tomorrow, but we’ll see if that actually happens.

Workout: Intermediate Mat Workout
Author: chaos
Went back to a pilates workout for the first time in a while today. I have to admit that it was a little tough… open leg rockers weren’t good, and the teaser was pretty much a failure. The teaser was interesting, because I was having trouble not due to my abs, but because one of the previous exercises had really tired out my hips. So my hips weren’t holding up. Kind of weird.
Other than that, things went fairly well. I felt like I was doing a good job overall of keeping my motions tight, although there was some trouble with the section where I was lying on my side and kicking my legs. I need to take more time with that and really focus to get it right, I think. Anyway. Not too sure what I’ll do tomorrow, although I think I’ll probably try to get a balanceball workout in. Might depend on how my abs feel, though. Until then…

Workout: Abs Conditioning: Balanceball
Author: chaos
I went with the anticipated abs balanceball workout today. It’s the first time I’ve done this workout on a hardwood surface, and I was curious as to whether or not it would make any difference. I think it does make some difference, particularly on the poses where you’re lying on your back. I was never quite certain before if I was in neutral spine or not, because I sank into the carpeting somewhat. Now it’s much more clear.
I think my technique continues to improve, in general. The opening part of the workout has been really hard the last few times I’ve done it, and I think it’s because I really push for optimal technique. Which isn’t to say that I don’t later in the workout, but I think that I have a harder time achieving it because I wear out my abs early. Well, perhaps not wear them out, but certainly tire them. I really felt I was getting the most out of the supported crunches today, working the abs hard. That’s still my favorite thing about the balanceball, I think… one can push oneself a little further than one might otherwise be able to do, because the balanceball gives the support to push the muscles that little bit more. Anyway. Back to the full grind tomorrow, although it really doesn’t feel like I’ve spent nearly enough time relaxing for it to be time to return already. But, that’s the way it goes sometimes. Hopefully after I get through the next few weeks, things will calm down a bit more.

Workout: Free Form
Author: chaos
Went with another slight variation of what is coming to be my standard free form workout tonight. This time I went with the six sun salutations with triangle, warrior I, warrior II, and triangle -> half moon pose as my additions. I threw in a few powerful poses as part of my transitions, and went through the extra pushup pose -> upward dog -> downward dog sequences in the last two sun salutations. In the final sequence, I did a jump back, and made perhaps the lightest landing I’ve ever done with a decent jump. I didn’t even rattle the cabinet with the glass doors behind me, although they rattle if I step too hard. So that was cool. Finished out with a bit of forward bend and relaxation pose. I did something to my right knee earlier in the day. Not entirely sure what… it’s not precisely sore or hurting, it just feels like it’s been twinged a little. I’ve walked on it a decent amount today as well as doing the yoga workout, and it doesn’t seem to have had any ill effect. I guess that will be easier to determine for certain tomorrow, though. Anyway, it’s been a very long day, so I’m going to go ahead and call it a night, I think, and hopefully have a little more energy for work and stuff tomorrow.

Workout: Yoga Conditioning for Athletes: Mini-workouts
Author: chaos
Decided to go with a light workout this morning in order to switch from evening to morning workouts. I was actually going to do something a little heavier, but I was in the mood for a directed workout this morning, and couldn’t find the local copy of the py:complete disc. So I ended up just dropping to the light sequence of mini-workouts, swimming and all sports.
I was actually fairly happy with the workout… I think my focus made it a little heavier than it has felt a few other times I’ve done this combination. Still most definitely not a taxing workout, but I didn’t feel like I barely did anything, either. I was feeling pretty good about my stretches and extension… just feeling fairly loose, overall. My knee doesn’t seem to be any worse, and the odd twinging may have gone away… I’m not quite sure yet, since I’ve been sitting most of the time since the workout. I imagine I’ll figure it out a little later in the day. Anyway. Had a nice walk yesterday, the weather was quite pleasant for it. I’m trying to get a little more random exercise in besides just the yoga workouts. The walk probably wasn’t fast enough to have any real cardiovascular benefit, but every bit helps, I suppose, and it was plenty nice enough on its own. Not sure what I’ll do tonight, I may try to get a workout in, but it’ll probably depend on how tired I feel.

Workout: Free Form
Author: chaos
Another free form workout tonight. Part of the reason I’ve been doing so much free form lately is because it makes it easier for me to avoid doing any further damage to my knee. It restricts my choice of poses somewhat, but not all that much, really. And if it helps my knee heal, then it’s definitely worth it.
Modified my standard routine a little bit tonight. I started out as usual, running through two sun salutations. Then I incorporated warrior I and warrior II into the next two. While doing the warrior II, I decided I felt like getting some arm balances in, so I did a crane pose and a simple arm balance in the next two sequences. The simple arm balance went really well, probably my best yet. Crane wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t too bad, either. I started to try pendulum pose on the next sun salutation, but decided that might pressure my knee too much, so I just went with triangle instead. After that I finished off with cobbler’s pose and some leg stretches. I haven’t been as much into the stretches the last couple of days… no particular reason, I don’t think, just haven’t been focusing on that area as much. Anyway, I’m pretty tired, so I’m going to eat a little and then get some sleep, I think.

Workout: Intermediate Mat Workout

Went for the another pilates workout tonight. I really felt like doing this workout, for some reason. My legs have been a little sore all day, which should have encouraged me to do a yoga workout, but it’s hard to argue with what you feel like doing. It went a little bit better than last time… although the teaser was still a little problematic. I have problem with the side kick stuff still, but I’m getting better. I’m not sure my alignment is quite right… I need to examine the video a little more closely. I’ll probably go in for another workout in the morning, and possibly one tomorrow evening, although that’s somewhat less likely.

Failed to get enough sleep yet again. I’m doing much better than I was a few months ago, but it still seems to not be enough. I’m not really sure what I’m doing differently… it might not be anything. It’s quite possible that the accumulated fatigue is finally catching up to me, limiting the amount of additional lack of sleep related abuse that I can heap upon myself.
Went with a slightly lighter version of my free form routine today. Instead of doing additional pushup/upward dog/downward dog sequences, I instead focused more on the precise positioning of my feet and body. I think it was a good thing for this morning… I’m happy that I’m doing a better job of focusing overall. While I’m still not getting to that level all the time, it happens more often now, and tends to last longer during the workout. It feels like I’ve been making some decent mental progress in the last month or so, which is nice. I’m just hoping I don’t end up doing something to lose that mentality again. Anyway, hopefully going to check out a different ultimate game tonight… if I do that, there’s a good chance that I won’t get another workout in, but if I don’t make it or can’t find it, then I’ll probably go for another workout in the evening.

Workout: Free Form
Author: chaos
I checked out a new pickup ultimate game last night. It wasn’t bad… a little short on people, but since we didn’t really have full field space, it wasn’t that bad. A bunch of kids, though. Taking one person out, I averaged about a decade on the rest of them, which was definitely a new experience for me. They have a ton of energy, and they were fast. Overall, it was good for me… I haven’t been challenged on offense and defense that much for a long time. While it was a little tiring, it wasn’t too bad, which shows that I’ve come a long way since the beginning of the year.
Anyway, the workout was a standard stretching workout, both to stretch out from last night and to prepare for ultimate today. I did my standard sequence again today, with an emphasis on holding stretches that really felt like they were loosening and warming my legs. So I held my lunges for a little longer than normal. I’m a little bit worried about my right knee… I think I torqued it very slightly last night. While it’s just a touch tender, I’m really hoping I manage to avoid doing anything to it today, since I think some healing is definitely in order for it. Anyway, heading out soon… I might do another workout this afternoon to stretch out after ultimate. We’ll see what happens, I suppose.
Workout: Yoga Conditioning for Athletes: Mini-workouts

Went in for yet another stretching workout, this one directed. While I’m definitely feeling pretty good about all the ultimate in the last few days, it is a bit more of a strain on the body than I’m used to. So even though today went pretty well, I felt some good stretching was definitely in order to help preserve the overall condition of the body.
This time I went with my most common three mini workouts, but in a slightly different order. I decided to start off with swimming, in order to warm my legs back up a little and then start to cool them down gradually. I then did the running segment. I was a little worried that my knee would have problems, but it really didn’t. It’s more about hamstring stretching than anything else, really. Which is perfect, since that’s basically what I needed. I finished off with all sports, as usual.
My only real concern with all the ultimate is that it seems to be affecting my knees a little bit. I’m not sure if it’s just because of all the pivoting and hard running or what, or if it’s the occasional slight twist when I have to move my body in a way that I wasn’t expecting, but I can definitely feel the effects when I’m doing yoga. It’s nothing that’s going to stop me at the moment, just something I’ll be monitoring and potentially using to adjust the amount I play if necessary.

Workout: Abs Conditioning: Yoga

Well, I had a much longer entry posted, but my computer crashing ate it, unfortunately. Since the computer has been acting somewhat unstable, I’ll just go with the abbreviated version. I haven’t been doing many abs workouts recently because I’ve been spending so much time either stretching in preparation of playing ultimate or stretching out after playing ultimate.
Today’s workout was fairly poor on the concentration side, pretty good on the physical side. I was very distracted for reasons that I’m uncertain of. But because of some slight soreness in various parts of my body, I was paying a lot of attention to positioning and such, and just maintained really strong form, I think. I also perhaps learned something about how to rotate the hip out without affecting the knee, since I was being very cautious about my right knee again. It’s definitely a little more tender now, but in a slightly different way. I think it’s going to be okay, though. Anyway, I was pretty pleased with the physical aspects of the workout, undoubtedly helped by the fact that I haven’t really done much abs work in the last week, and so was relatively fresh. Well, this ended up being about the length of the original entry, just structured differently, but I’m going to close out and hope that the computer is actually acting stable again.

Just another quick stretching workout before ultimate. I was on full carpeting today, which just feels so wrong after being on hardwood or a firm rug for all of my workouts for weeks now. The give carpeting has is just weird after that. Anyway, I don’t think it affected the workout all that much, since I was pretty much just going for a quick stretch. But it was a reminder that I really don’t want to move back to carpeting at any point.
Not a whole lot to say about the workout… pretty standard sequencing, combined the two warriors into a single sun salutation sequence in order to cut out a bit of time. Muscles were feeling a little fatigued, but not too badly. I imagine that I’ll probably be taking tomorrow off from any extra activities, but who knows, maybe I’ll get an extra session yoga session in in the evening.

Workout: Free Form

Dragged myself out of bed this morning. Yet another day when I feel like I’d be so much better off with another two or three hours of sleep. Of course, that’s partly because I shorted myself last night reading the new Harry Potter book. Although I’m really not thinking I’d want to go to work today, regardless of how much sleep I had. Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of choice in the matter, so go to work I shall.
I really felt like more of a directed workout today, but that required a setup process that was more involved that it would normally be, so I decided to just go ahead and do another basic free form workout. Completely standard sequencing… the only notable thing about the workout was a slightly improved rotation/extension of the lower hip in side stretch pose. Actually, I’m not sure if it was really improved, or if I was just noticing it because of slight soreness. Either way, noticing it helped me know what to tweak a little better, which I may or may not be able to recall later. But there’s certainly a better chance now, anyway. Might get another workout in later tonight, might not. Really depends on how tired I am when I get home, I think.

I was really intending to get out of bed and get a good workout in today, but that didn’t happen. Despite getting a relatively large amount of sleep, I was still very tired when I awoke, and eventually managed to drag myself out of bed to get in another basic free form workout. Ran through the standard sequence, then added in another two sun salutations to get in crane pose and simple arm balance. Simple arm balance might have been a bit of a mistake… I was feeling that in my knee, a little bit. Crane pose went pretty well, I felt that I had good lift in it while maintaining a rounded back. I’m always a little uncertain about that one, if my positioning is quite correct. Anyway, I hope that I’ll do a little bit better about getting up tomorrow, and manage to get a more full-fledged workout in.

Once again I had a very difficult time getting out of bed. Really, it seems to get worse every day. I suspect tomorrow might be slightly better, but probably not all that much, really. I guess at least when someone else is already up, I feel more inclined to get out of bed myself, so it should be better for that reason.
Today’s workout was definitely pretty far from the best I’ve had. For some reason I was swaying a little bit pretty much every time I was standing or transitioning from standing to forward bend or vice versa. Not a whole lot, but definitely noticable. The poses themselves went fairly decently, overall, although I’m a little concerned that I strained my right knee a little more than I should have. While it’s kind of annoying to be doing the same workout so often, that’s one of the good things about my current free form routine, it doesn’t strain the knee at all. Pendulum pose wasn’t overly successful, although I did manage to lift off for a second or two. Crane pose went fairly well, I had a pretty decent lift. Simple arm balance was also decent, I kept my arms in slightly more than usual, and managed to recover from a slight overbalance to the back, not once, but twice. I’m not sure I’ve ever successfully done that before. So overall, it was an okay workout, just not particularly satisfying.

I forgot that because of the day, no one would necessarily be up before I was today. So I didn’t really end up getting up all that early. Not that I’d have gotten up all that early anyway, but a little bit earlier than I managed.
Anyway. I was considering doing a directed workout today, but then I didn’t really feel like setting it up, and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do anyway. So I just went free form again. I could feel a little bit of tenderness in my right knee, most likely primarily from the workout yesterday. But it wasn’t too bad, and mostly only noticeable on the lunges with the right leg forward. Mostly did the standard sequence, except I omitted the warrior I and instead did a triangle -> half moon sequence as my final sun salutation pose. That didn’t go overly well… I was a little shaky again today, and had a very hard time with the half moon to the right. The one to the left was better, but still not as good as I’d like.
I did observe today that I seemed to be leaning my top hip forward slightly in triangle pose. I think that it’s something I’ve been doing in general, so I’ll have to concentrate a little bit on correcting it. Getting it back in line didn’t seem to have made a significant difference to the difficulty of the pose, so with a little dedication I should have the problem corrected in a week or so, I imagine. Anyway, not really sure where I’m going tomorrow, which will affect what kind of workout I’m doing, and when, and possibly even how many. So until then…

Workout: Free Form
Author: chaos
Went with another free form workout this morning. I was on carpeting again, but it wasn’t that much of a problem. I think I just expect a little bit less out of the workouts in that case, since I know that balancing will be a little bit different, and not really in a good way. The way my schedule has been working out, I’ve only been on this surface when playing ultimate shortly thereafter, so I’m just trying to get a nice light stretch in, anyway.
Today’s session wasn’t too bad… I wasn’t noticably sore from ultimate last night, which isn’t terribly surprising, since I didn’t work overly hard. Well, and I suppose I’m getting used to playing a little more often now, too. Although I’d like to get back to playing a little less often for some other reasons, but that’s a different matter. I stuck to the normal sequence today, the only extra thing being standing backbends in the style of total body. Overall, a decent stretching workout, and it’ll hopefully prevent any soreness tomorrow as well.

I really didn’t feel like doing another free form workout today, so I thought hard about what kind of workouts I could do that wouldn’t have a negative impact on my knee. This ended up being the top contender from the yoga side, and since I wasn’t really in the mood for pilates, this is what I went with.
I think it went pretty well, overall. I was quite focused for the workout, especially during the opening vinyasa sequence. So I think I got some good results out of the poses, particularly the triangle and side stretch poses. I was also quite pleased with my shoulderstand, later in the workout. I was feeling quite in touch with what I was doing at the time, and that’s always a good thing. The rest of the poses went decently. Overall, it felt like a solid workout, and a nice change of pace from the free form routine I’ve gotten into. I think I’ll try and get an abs balanceball workout in tomorrow, and hopefully start integrating more abs work back into my schedule in the next week or two.

Workout: Abs Conditioning: Balanceball
Author: chaos
Did the anticipated balanceball workout today. It continues to amaze me how difficult this workout manages to be, every time I do it. It’s probably largely because I haven’t been doing enough ab work lately, and so I haven’t been building up my muscles as much as I could be. And I think that as I continue to use better techniques during the workout, I get better isolation than I have in the past. That’s really what it comes down to, I think… isolation of the abs. Particularly the lower abs seem to get a very powerful workout from this routine. The obliques also get a reasonable amount of work, but not nearly as much as the lower abs. I’m not entirely sure. Anyway, another decent workout. I might get another one in very early tomorrow, or perhaps not until tomorrow afternoon or evening. Until then…

This wasn’t really what I originally had in mind for tonight, but after a fairly lengthy decision making process, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. It went very well, actually… I was pleasantly surprised. I think some of my observations about my techniques for the warrior poses really paid off in this workout, as my legs really weren’t getting tired at all during the first section. I was originally thinking that I might just do the first section, and then skip to the last, but since I was still feeling quite energetic by the end of the first section, I decided to go ahead and continue on. I had some trouble with half moon again today, but warrior III went pretty well. I even did some of the backbend work… I decided to skip the last couple of minutes, because I worried that it might not be entirely beneficial to my knee. I was very careful to try and avoid doing anything that might be a problem today… I skipped a few of the stretching exercises in order to avoid potential problems. I think that all this care is helping, but it’s still a slow process. One day, I shall be whole and uninjured again. Anyway. It was a good workout, and doing it made me realize that it has relatively little impact on the knee, which is good, because I was overestimating the trouble that it would cause. So now I have another workout that I can turn to while avoiding straining the knee, as long as I make sure to avoid some of the stretches.

It’s not going to be at all easy to get out of bed this week. The fatigue just keeps accumulating, even as I attempt to get more sleep to compensate for it. Of course, the Sunday night transition is particularly harsh, so maybe that’s part of it. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m ever going to recover from it, at least not this week.
Anyway, I eventually dragged myself out of bed. After another while of being basically stunned, I went for the workout. It was definitely quite far from my best workout… I just didn’t have the level of focus that I needed to really get a high quality workout. The motions weren’t bad, but my concentration and energy weren’t there. I suppose that’s something I’m going to have to deal with if I don’t start getting more rest. Oh well. Hopefully stuff at work will start to settle down pretty soon, and I can get back to something resembling a sane schedule. Slight possibility of a workout tonight, but more likely that I’ll crash early and at least try to catch up on rest.

Workout: Yoga for Strength: session 1

I overslept this morning, so I just called in and worked from home today. Which was probably a necessity, since I really haven’t been getting anything done at work the last few days, as I’ve been too tired. So extra sleep was something I was in very great need of.
Getting to the middle of the day, so I decided to get my yoga workout in. Through a random selection process, went with yfs:s1 again. That was a fairly pleasing choice… not hard on the knee, and a fairly good workout. Didn’t feel quite as good as the last one, but that’s largely because my back hadn’t been feeling a little worn from previous days of activity. Nothing too much to note about the workout… focus wasn’t quite as good as I’d have liked, but I had uncommon levels of activity going on at the time, so it’s not surprising. Shoulderstand went well, I was perhaps a little happier with it than I was last time. One of my better implementations, I’d say. Anyway, going to try and get some more work done before tonight’s activities, so I’ll sign out for now.

Workout: Free Form

Had too much to drink last night. It’s a rather bad habit that I’ve been getting into on game nights, and I really need to stop. I know when I should stop, and I’ve been ignoring that, which is stupid. Well, it’d probably be fine, except for the whole going into work the next day thing.
Surprisingly enough, I felt fine when I woke up today. Of course, that really only lasted until I moved, but still. It wasn’t all that bad, just slightly out of the usual balance. Anyway, woke up for a bit, then went to the standard free form workout. I’m planning on playing ultimate later tonight, so it was a slightly warmup for that, although given that there’s a day of work between, it doesn’t really have much effect. Anyway, it was pretty standard… I liked my backbends coming from standing forward bend, particularly the last two. I mostly have been avoiding the knee pretty well, although I did feel it very slightly a few times in the stretching. I’m uncertain if it had a negative impact, though. I’ll have to wait and see, I guess. Most likely I’ll go for another free form workout tomorrow before ultimate, since I’m pretty unlikely to be in the mood to do one tonight, but who knows.

Workout: Free Form

Ultimate was fairly unkind to me yesterday. I ripped up my left hip sliding in for a catch, strained my right knee (again… I really need to either get a brace or stop playing ultimate), had a fairly minor pull in my right quadricep, and bruised the bottom of my ribcage on the right side (again, and I have no idea how I did it this time, either). So while the ribcage and quad didn’t matter that much, the abrasion on the hip was fairly painful (and made sleeping rather tricky), and the knee is rather unfortunate, since that’s the one I’ve been trying to heal.
So the workout wasn’t quite as intensive as I might have liked, as I was largely just trying to avoid any further pain. Even that was tricky… the knee was again objecting to being the forward leg for lunges. That bothers it a lot more than being forward for the warriors or side stretch… not entirely sure why. The hip wasn’t really a problem, which was nice. Anyway, hopefully I’ll manage to avoid taking more damage today, and start healing up again (until next time).

Unfortunately, my plan to avoid injury yesterday didn’t work out quite as well as I might have liked. My knee started aching almost immediately, which wasn’t unexpected, but not particularly welcome, either. A little bit later my quad started feeling tight again, also not unexpected. The worst of the day was when I tried to follow a cut of the guy I was defending, and my cleats didn’t manage to get traction on the dry ground, so my legs slid out from under me, dropping me directly on the hip I ripped up the previous day. That was somewhat less than ideal.
Anyway, all of this ended up not actually having all that much effect on the workout today. I was worried that the hip in particular might cause some problems, but the only time it was really noticable were on the reclining twists, and that mostly only on the first one. Other than that… it was a fairly routine workout. Still not a whole lot of focus, but that wasn’t entirely unexpected. Anyway, going to go disc golf for the first time in a long time today, and while I would have preferred to get some more stretching in for twists, the knee largely prevents most of that, so I’m just going to ad lib and hopefully it won’t be too bad.

Workout: Free Form

Another free form warmup today. This one felt much better on all the joints than the one on Friday, so I’ve at least largely recovered from the damage inflicted earlier in the weekend. My right knee was still a little tender beyond the normal amount, but only a little bit, more of a twinge than an actual pain during lunges. I did modify a bit from my usual routine today… I started out by running through the beginning of the total body workout, up until the point of the first warrior II. Then I modified back to the routine I’ve been doing, with a little reorder, doing warrior II, triangle, and side stretch. I decided to go ahead and skip warrior I, because I felt sufficiently warm at that point. I finished off with a basic seated forward bend followed by reclined cobbler’s pose and relaxation pose. Not a great workout, but sufficient for stretching out, and not damaging or painful, so no real complaints.
