No, Calvin is not the name of the project. It's the name of the model!
This is the Interlacements TNT beaded scarf kit, all done! I love how the beads go with the yarn in this particular kit colorway (color 213 of the Tiny Toes).
Another shot with Calvin:
Now, you may be wondering, "How big is that penguin that he can wear the scarf?" Really what you should be asking is "How small is that scarf?" The scarf is 3 and a half feet long and 4 inches wide. I don't think it's meant to keep you warm, what with the glass beads and all, so I think that is nice as a decorative scarf length. This scarf is being gifted, so I certainly hope so. One other thing about this kit: the finished scarf is heavy -- it weighs in at 6.5 oz!
And, in a shocking development, I have two different socks on the needles (and only one of them is one of Cookie's patterns). No pictures for now (Calvin doesn't wear socks) ...
Oh, I love that scarf! And I think you are selling Calvin short - surely he could wear socks if they were big enough.. or small enough.

Posted by: Gigi at April 3, 2007 2:32 AMSo pretty! I love the gold accent with the saturated colors of the yarn... verrrry nice!
Posted by: reluctantmango at April 3, 2007 3:36 AMNot sure how well that scarf would do long - i would think the beads would stretch it down too much - short is great - then the beads and decorative ends stay up where people can really see them! so pretty!
Posted by: stacey at April 3, 2007 5:30 AMIt's such a pretty scarf! And your model is quite handsome too. I love penguins. Perhaps you could put the socks on his beak?
Posted by: shadkitty at April 3, 2007 6:32 AMNice pictures! Yay for FO's! And Calvin is SUCH a good sport! (Unlike some models I use (ahem! ) at times...)
Posted by: Margit at April 3, 2007 7:33 AMGorgeous scarf! I've often thought about making a similar beaded scarf -- I love the fan of beads at each end -- but was concerned about the weight. As you said, though, such a scarf is primarily for decoration so I shouldn't worry about it so much. Anyway, excellent job! Your model is adorable, too. :)
Posted by: Denise in Kent, WA at April 3, 2007 8:06 AMOh how beautiful is that! I so missed out on those scarf kits at FTA! What a lucky friend you have to get that beautiful scarf. :)
And it amazes me whenever I see a finished version of that scarf somewhere just how freaking heavy it is! I just can't stop touching them though, it's something in the beads I swear! (likely, the shininess of them... oooh so shiny!)
Posted by: Teenuh at April 3, 2007 8:19 AMVery pretty scarf. It's amazing how much weight the beads add, but I like the feeling. Beautiful job.
Posted by: Janice at April 3, 2007 8:54 AMI have no idea how you made a stuffed penguin look regal, but there you go :)
Posted by: aija at April 3, 2007 9:22 AMKristi, the scarf is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful scalloped edges with the beads!
Posted by: AJ at April 3, 2007 9:25 AMOoo, that's quite lovely. I'm very fond of the bronze beads; and you're right - the color combination makes the whole thing more than the sum of its parts. Well done!
Posted by: Tikabelle at April 3, 2007 10:25 AMThat turned out really well. I also like the color of those beads with that yarn. As for your model, at least you don't have to worry about him closing his eyes, complaining about the dimensions of his backside or any other such stuff. Good choice! ;)
Posted by: Cindy at April 3, 2007 10:59 AMhi, i did your pomatomus socks and they are wonderful. the only problem is that the pattern is a little bit off. the first sock ended up looking kind of odd, but only the top part of the sock...the pattern maybe needs to be modified to being all like the pattern is on the bottom without trying to wrap around. anyway, check it out i guess if you want to fix it, otherwise i really can't describe what went wrong since i finished them a while ago. but i fixed the problem in my socks and i love them!
Posted by: Emily at April 3, 2007 12:47 PMHey, I'm so glad that it's done. Can't wait to see the socks!
:)
