Busy, I tell ya! Okay, first up for Yarn Porn Friday I have some Interlacements Tiny Toes I got from Full Thread Ahead the other week. I LOVE this color. Click for bigger.
Oh yes, and we have some announcements. Kristi and I are gearing up for Stitches, and we are thinking that the West Coast needs a little excitement along the lines of Rhinebeck Bingo. We don't want to completely rip off Stitchy, so our plan is a little different, more along the lines of a scavenger hunt. Here's how it'll work:
We will post a list of questions before Stitches. Don't worry if you don't have a chance to print it out before going, we will have a few extras there (but please try to print out your copy in advance if you can). To answer these questions, you will have to find a particular person or go to a particular location.
Anybody can sign up to be a "clue" meaning you come up with a question for the list, and you provide the answer. The answer has to be available on the market place for at least half a day. For example, if Kristi's question is "What sock pattern is Kristi from Knitters Anonymous wearing on her feet?", Kristi has to be at the market place wearing those socks for an entire time slot. The time slots are Thursday Night preview, Friday 10-2, Friday 2-6, Saturday 10-2, Saturday 2-6, Sunday 10-2, Sunday 2-4.
[EDIT: Just to make it clear, anybody can play, no matter how long you are Stitches for. To be a clue though, you must be available for at least one entire time slot.]
The question can be whatever you want, but it has to have only one possible correct answer. Also keep in mind that you can make it as interactive as you want. If you want people to talk to you, your question can be "What is Cookie's favorite movie?" If you don't want people to talk to you, a question like "What color is Cookie's hair: red, blue, or green?" might be more appropriate.
Questions must be submitted by Feb 10. We will put up the list a week beforehand, so that people can check out others' blogs to get an idea of what they look like. To submit a question, send your name, your blog URL, the time slots your clue will be there, your question, and the answer to stitch.n.seek@gmail.com.
If you are a vendor, you may sign up your booth or yourself for a question, but we ask that you donate something to the prize pool.
Oh yeah, of course there will be prizes! Whoever gets the most answers will have first pick at prizes. If there is a tie, we'll choose one randomly. All other prize winners will be chosen randomly, so just participating gives you a shot. We haven't decided how answer submission should work yet. We might have a drop box at Stitches.
We're still sorting out the rest of the details, but thought we'd throw that out for now. One of the big details we need help with is a name. I suck at naming things, really. The best we've come up with so far is Stitch-n-Seek or Stitches-n-Seek or Stitches, Scavenge and Stash. You guys must have some ideas, right? And it'd be nice if the clues had something to wear to signify that they are in the game. Anybody got ideas for that?
And to make this post even longer than the previous longest post ever, I have a tiny bit of knitting to show you:
Gee, doesn't this look similar, but a different color and in need of binding off? It's the Colinette Jitterbug. I weighed it after Kristi warned me about yardage, and it turns out I've got just enough to finish the pair.
Um, what else have I been knitting? I'm almost done with this sock that needs to be blocked. I know, I normally don't block socks, but the lace on this really needs it.
Next week I'm off to a retreat in Washington which sadly is not Madrona. Though I might be able to stop by Madrona for a few hours on Saturday. Has anybody been there? What's it like? Worth sleep deprivation?
BUMMER! I don't get to play your brilliant Stitches game since I'll only be there for two days! Have fun with your "stitch-n-seek"?
By the way, LOVE your Monkey socks!
Posted by: ~Kristie at January 19, 2007 11:03 AMLove those socks! And I loved the Colinette Jitterbug so much I called Purlescence and ordered the last skein! (Yes, I have no life, thank you.)
People, if you can, get yourselves into Purlescence. I was so impressed with this shop. It carries yarns and supplies you don't normally find in most LYS's, and the ladies who own it are downright fantastic. (I mean, how many shops carry both Zephyr laceweight and Socks That Rock?) Very worth checking out.
Posted by: Alison at January 19, 2007 11:34 AMHi Cookie,
Your socks are amazing! I am working on my Titania socks now.... I'm a little slow but I am loving the yarn and the pattern form the STR club.
I will stay tuned for the scavenger hunt at stitches this sounds like loads of fun and I plan on being there to check out the marketplace on Friday.
Oh and I am actually going to Madrona for the first time. I will make sure to introduce myself if I see you.
Posted by: Marisol at January 19, 2007 11:46 AMI really really want to knit monkey and have recently got some Colinette Jitterbug but was unsure what to knit with it - I now know. I have jitterbug in browns (castagna i think) and will def be casting on for monkey once I've finished the socks i'm working on. What size needles did you use for the Jitterbug?
Posted by: Lyndsey-Jane at January 19, 2007 12:19 PMHow about Stitches- Stalk and Stash. Yes, we've established that my sense of humor is very odd.
And for anyone else wondering about those Jitterbug needles- Inox 6" #2 dpn which are 2.5mm.
Posted by: freecia at January 19, 2007 1:16 PM(The needles are a guess based on seeing the sock last night)
Posted by: freecia at January 19, 2007 1:21 PMWhat a great idea! Too bad i'm here on the east coast...
The socks are great - I love seeing a pattern in all different colorways. The purple lace knee high is amazing!! that lace top looks so neat!
Posted by: stacey at January 19, 2007 1:50 PMI bought a skein of Jitterbug at Purlescence and was concerned about the yardage. I'm working on Monkey #1 using STR Fire on the Mountain. Maybe #2 will be in the Bright Charcoal I got. What size needles did you use? They recommend a size 3, I think, but I usually use size 1s.
Posted by: Jocelyn at January 19, 2007 1:57 PMFreecia told me you called yesterday, I'm in for the bingo. Any suggestions on what I should ante up as a prize? What are the prize values you'd like?
Posted by: Hollis at January 19, 2007 2:34 PMHello Cookie,
I have enjoyed browsing you and Kristie's blog since I found your lovely pattern on Knitty.com.
I just finished my 2nd pair of socks by using Jitterbug - Castsgna as I got the yarn at LYS as soon as I saw your posting some time ago... It is such a beautiful yarn! And now just started working on Monkey with the yarn from Pieace of Beauty... What a great pattern!! How about the purple long sock with the lace pattern at the top? Is that also your own pattern? I would love to knit that one, too :)
LOL! What a fun game to play.
And Colinette Jitterbug has enough yardage for a pair of Pomatomus too. ;)
We've missed you Cookie, though Kristi was awesome w/her posts & pics of fibery goodness.
Posted by: C. at January 19, 2007 8:41 PMooh, that sounds fun! i'm definitely going to stitches this year (never been!) but i'm carpooling so i don't know when yet. i like Stitch-n-Seek out of those three, but i suck at naming stuff too.
Posted by: al at January 19, 2007 11:00 PMI am so jealous! I saw a pink/black Jitterbug at my LYS and your Monkey looks awesome. Did you get away with only 2 skeins?
Posted by: Sally at January 20, 2007 12:12 AMI wasn't taken with the jitterbug at all until that red/brown sock. Oh my.
Posted by: Sharon at January 20, 2007 5:44 AMThe Jitterbug sock looks awesome. You really should enter the Colinette sock design competition you would walk it.
Posted by: maylin at January 20, 2007 6:04 AMGirl, now I am thinking I should have scooped up some Jitterbug the night you bought the first one. Hmmph. Well, I love my STR (in the fabulous and familiar Monkey pattern) and next I'm going to dive into the Claudia Handpainted. yummy.
Posted by: Juls at January 20, 2007 8:17 AMI love the idea of a Stitches scavenger hunt! I'm going to email my boss right now and suggest we join.
Posted by: Sarah at January 20, 2007 9:04 AMWow, the colors of that Interlacements yarn are fabulous!!

Posted by: G. Knerd at January 20, 2007 1:27 PMGreat colors! And the lace socks are fab! Have fun on your trip!
Posted by: AJ at January 20, 2007 3:30 PM~droool~ Sorry for drooling on the yarn and the socks. Wish I were going too, I love a good scavenger hunt! Have fun!
Posted by: Carol at January 21, 2007 5:29 AMHi cookie! Love that yarn! I am so envious of everyone who gets to go to stitches. Sounds like a whole lot of trouble that I would love to get into. I would love to make a donation for your scavenger hunt. just email me if you oare interested.
Posted by: Amanda Hall at January 21, 2007 8:06 AMBeautiful yarn! Also love all of the socks...particularly the red pair.
Posted by: Kari at January 21, 2007 8:52 AMI definitely want to be involved in the hunt and donate a prize... That is nice yarn porn. And I really like the red/brown sock.
Posted by: Margit at January 21, 2007 9:33 AMI like stalk and stash
Love the socks. I have monkey lined up for the next pair of socks. I need to pick what yarn to use, or dye some, I don't know yet.
I like stalk and stash

Your pictures are so totally scrumptious.
Thanks for sharing them.
Thank you so much for confirming that it's possible to get a decent sized pair of socks from a skein of Jitterbug! I agree with Jocelyn's comment - I can't imagine knitting this yarn on a size US3 needle, at least not for socks. Have big fun at Stitches! The scavenger hunt idea sounds like a kick. Can't help you with a catchy name, I'm afraid - that brand of creativity is definitely not my strong suit...
Posted by: Denise in Kent, WA at January 22, 2007 8:12 AMWow! I love that colinette colorway. The red and brown together is just fabulous.
Posted by: Elise at January 22, 2007 9:13 AMI like stitch n seek, myself. I'll be signing up as soon as I figure out what time slot[s] I'll be there.
I like Stitch'n'Seek too!
I'm going to sign up!
I'll email asap with the details you asked for!
I can't wait!
I'm going to try to come up with some sort of button too! one that we can all print out in a size large enough to be seen from about 20-30 feet away, that we can pin to our clothes??
can't wait to see how this all turns out! :o)
Wow, you sure can knit fast! Have fun at Stitches. They sure at like "Disneyland" for knitters.
Posted by: Sheila at January 23, 2007 10:57 AMYOu're socks are gorgeous. Especially the knee highs. beautiful.
