There's something really beautiful about seeing a yarn store come together. I just got back from a fun evening at Purlescence Yarns where I unpacked the last of the unpacked yarn and put it on the shelves. My right arm actually got quite the workout!
Emy stopped by before I did and had the pleasure of labelling the Blue Moon Fiber Arts shipment that came in earlier. Let me give you a sneak peak. Unfortunately, my camera was set all wrong for flourescent lighting, and I um, sort of forgot that I left it on manual focus so the pictures are pretty blurry. Here's the BMFA yarn:
And here's a nice selection of Claudia Handpaints:
I also set aside a couple items for myself. I resisted all impulse to add any BMFA to the pile, since that would be ABSURD. The Bambu really called to me though. That stuff is dreamy to work with and is the softest thing you've ever felt. I don't get to buy these until the grand opening, but I took a picture to look at in the meantime. A beautiful Della Q Hipster bag and a pair of Claudia Handpaints sock yarn in greens. I forget the color name. And I love their chaise lounge!
I wish I lived in the area and could thus check out the store. Maybe I could afford a vacation...but the yarn would probably put me waaaay over budget.

Posted by: aija at October 12, 2006 1:08 AMI'm drooling. More like foaming at the mouth...maybe I need to move. Yummy yarn. I LOVE Claudia's Handpaints, and that colorway you have picked out is SO pretty.
Posted by: Sarah at October 12, 2006 5:14 AMIt's so wonderful that now there's a knitting store in Sunnyvale. I wish I still lived there!!!!
Great bag, by the way!
Posted by: AlyssaLook at all the yarny goodness!! The bag you picked out is great - I'll have to check the website to see if anyone around me sells them. Green yarn - one of my favorites! Can't wait to see what sock they turn into!
Posted by: stacey at October 12, 2006 5:49 AMWow the shop is comign along nicely. I used to live in No. Cal and plan to visit in December so I will have to put Purlescence on the list of must see knit shops when I go up.
Posted by: Nubiancraftster at October 12, 2006 7:51 AMI almost stopped by after work yesterday. I'm so bummed I got out so late that I didn't have a chance. Yummy walls o' yarn!
Posted by: CJ at October 12, 2006 8:29 AMI think I've died and gone to heaven. What a fantabulous yarn store. Did you say it's in Sunnyvale? I think that's only about 5 hours from Santa Barbara. I must think of a reason to get up there...
Posted by: Leslie at October 12, 2006 8:29 AMSounds like fun to me! I'd ape$&!# if I could get to set up a yarn store. ewww drool...
Posted by: Carol at October 12, 2006 8:37 AMI'm jealous. Maybe you could resist the urge, but I wouldn't have been able to!
Posted by: AJ at October 12, 2006 8:44 AMHeh, I wasn't going to go 'cause I live in the East Bay, but your and Emy's pics are motivating me to take that drive south!
Posted by: C. at October 12, 2006 10:21 AMHey! How did they get BMFA, when no other shops in the area have been able to get it??? Wow, I'd bet the other LYS owners are jealous...
Posted by: Jo at October 12, 2006 1:22 PMYay! BMFA! Now I can rest easy knowing there's a local supplier and not blow my budget at Stitches. There's still a skein of it (yes, one, this stuff isn't cheap) in my stash waiting to become something. Mmmmmmmm.
Thanks for the looksie! How very very exciting.
And for those of you who are a longer drive away, know this, there are like a half dozen yarn stores in a 20 minute driving radius. Can we say YARN CRAWL?
Posted by: freecia at October 12, 2006 3:08 PMOh my god!!! I wish I could step right in there...actually I wish that was my house - oohhhh it looks so good! I am impressed with the level of restraint you showed; must have been tough. I hope they are going to be online - I will be visiting for sure!
Posted by: Cynthia at October 12, 2006 3:32 PMOh, doesn't that all look yummy! I wish I lived close! waaaaa
Posted by: Karen at October 12, 2006 4:14 PMEmy told me they have Sock Candy. I so need to get there on Saturday and get some!
Posted by: Abigail at October 12, 2006 4:30 PMOooooh, love your purchases, well picked. That wall of yarn looks good enough to eat...presuming you could eat yarn.
Posted by: BrownPants at October 12, 2006 5:04 PMNow I REALLY want to go to the Grand Opening! It may have to be on my agenda for tomorrow-bright and early! And I see they got the BMFA distribution! I wonder if Tina is still planning only one No. Cal shop for distribution?
I'll have to wear my Hederas in case I see you!
Posted by: Leslie at October 13, 2006 5:00 PMAll that yarn!! It makes me happy just looking at it. I think I'm drooling....
Posted by: shadkitty at October 13, 2006 8:12 PMI loved it. Me and the baby went to hang and I scored some BMFA and yes, the long awaited Seduction merino/tencel. Woot!
Posted by: Juls at October 14, 2006 7:15 PMI had to wipe my drool off, too. I'd LOOOOOVE to go to that store! What wonderful stock!
