It's time for

... another blog contest!

First let's go over the prizes.

1. Sock knitter's paradise. Vogue Knitting Fall 2006 issue with oodles of sock patterns, one hank of Cherry Tree Hill Supersock mill end in browns/blues, and 2 skeins of Hand Jive Knits Nature's Palette sock yarn.

2. Red hot mama. 4 ginormous hanks of Rainbow Wools 20ply in red.

Rainbow Wools

3. One skein wonder snob. 1 ball Jaeger Chamonix, 1 ball Rowan Cork, Noro Big Kureyon, 2 balls ArtFibers Plouf!, and one ball of sock yarn of unknown origin.

One skein wonders

How to win these fabulous prizes?

Create a knitting prose entry to your blog using as many polysyllabic or obscure words as you can muster. Your entire blog post, including title and pictures, is part of your submission to the contest. You will be graded on:

  • How awesome and powerful I find your prose. Think poetic and smoothly flowing, not obviously run through a thesaurus. Humor and/or true beauty will get you everywhere.
  • Usage of crazy words. Let's get creative here. Don't use words other people have already used, unless you think you can one-up them in cleverness.
  • The post has to be entirely about knitting. Yes, you can tie other things into knitting, but don't stray too much from the topic.
  • Remember that your entire post is your entry, so if you want to explain to your readers that you aren't crazy and you're trying to win some yarn (truly a noble cause, no?), say so poetically or do so in a different post. Or, leave them some clues by linking random words to the contest rules.
  • You may only submit your own posts to your own blog with your own pictures, and the post must be new.

You can enter multiple times, but each entry must be a separate post on your blog. Size or sheer quantity of polysyllabic words won't win this for you, it's how you use them. Post links to your entries in a comment to this post.

Three winners will be chosen by The Judge (me):

  1. Best overall post - truly beautiful or humorous
  2. Most obnoxious post - If you can manage to come off as pompous, condescending, fake, pretentious or a jackass, you've got a shot at this one. It's entirely possible that something you think is beautiful will strike me as pretentious. If you try to be offensive, it won't work.
  3. Random winner - If you're not great with words, don't worry. You can still be eligible for this one. Multiple entries will not count toward this prize.

Entries must be received by 11:59pm PDT (GMT - 7) on Sunday, September 10, 2006 CE. I will select winners by September 13. Whichever post I like best (which could be the most obnoxious post) will get first pick at prizes. Then 2nd best. Then the remaining prize is given to the random winner. I reserve the right not to disclose which winner was the most obnoxious.

Questions about rules will not be tolerated unless poetically, humorously, or pretentiously phrased.

Holy cannoli, another contest? :)

I think the unknown sock yarn is wildfoote, maybe rock & roll colorway?

Verbosity (and strangeways), here we come.

Cookie,

I love your designs! Especially the one on knitty.com - the baudelaire stocking is fabulous. I was wondering if you would be interested in sending me some pics to post on a cheeky website I run called Knit Porn (www.knittedporn.blogspot.com). I loved the one on knitty.com, but let me know what you think!

What fun! How ever will I get any work done between now and the deadline, wrapt as I will be in the poetry of knitting?

certainly not my blog, and not a contest entry, but in this vein i thought you all would appreciate this link my brother sent me:

Help! I did it again! Someone has to stop me. This is WAY too much fun to do after a long day of editing my dissertation. You know, to write with horrendous pretentiousness on *purpose* for a change. :-)

Ooooh...a bit intimidated I am.....

No way do I expect to hit #1. - nearly hit delete after reading some of the other entries. A couple of #2. criteria might work. #3. is probably my only hope...but I amused myself in the attempt!

My name should be the direct link to the contest entry :)

I'm no wordsmith, which is abundantly clear with the result of hours and hours (and hours) of work: http://schrodinger212.blogspot.com/2006/09/in-honor-of-pot-sock.html

I just don't have much to say recently. Such is life. I've basically been doing nothing. Basically nothing seems worth bothering with. Oh well.
