I'm sort of glad I didn't knit back when I got married, or I would have felt some compunction to knit some crazy thing even though I had plenty of other things keeping me busy (like the first year of grad school).
But since then, I've had the fun of getting to work on projects for other people's weddings, which I totally enjoy!
This time, it was something small -- a garter for Margit's wedding. The knitting is done, but I still have to put it together:
Note that the morning light made it look blue, but it is in fact white Jaggerspun Zephyr, the same yarn she used for her beautiful peacock feathers shawl for the big day, which is approaching quickly (don't freak out Margit, it's going to be awesome).
The pattern is from the Knitter's Calendar, I think from June 2nd? I changed things up a bit, but it is essentially the same. The lace got much bigger after blocking, which I knew would happen -- I really want there to be some extra to make it all nice and garter-y, and there's plenty! Now to find some ribbons and elastic and make this look like a garter!
I'm too glad I didn't knit when I got married, I probabyl would have been tempted to knit my wedding dress. Although we only had a 3 month engagement, so I probably wouldn't have had time.
