I added a few things to the Destash List. Just some cashmere and sock weight yarn, probably nothing worth checking out. :-)
Mary asked why I was destashing so much yarn. Well, I think I'm going through a weird knitting phase right now. Kristi and I like to look over new patterns together, and I often like stuff that is really ugly. When she calls me on it, my response is always that I don't care about wearing it, I just want to knit it. So there's this running joke that I never wear anything I knit which is pretty true, minus handknit socks which I wear all the time during winter.
In any case, I came back from a trip to Chicago last week (that's why I was postless for so long) and unpacked and sorted all my clothing. Before I had left, I'd reorganized all my yarn. I noticed that (a) I have no idea what sort of sweater I would ever wear with most of my clothing, (b) the color scheme of my yarn is fairly consistent, the color scheme of my clothing is fairly consistent, but they totally don't match each other, (c) I kinda have this urge to knit stuff I'd actually wear instead of just to knit it.
So I went through all my yarn and decided to part with as much as I can bear to, so that I may later replenish it with more wardrobe-friendly yarns. But what will that be? You tell me because I'm left sort of boggling. Here are some of my favorite clothes (Kristi is going to wonder where the hell these came from because I rarely wear them outside of the house, but let's ignore that for now):
Compare that with the last few sweaters I've knit:
See the dilemma?
Oh... wow. I love your taste. The stuff doesn't look that incompatible to me.... :)
Posted by: Mandy at June 26, 2006 7:07 PMOhhhh lovely jackets. If we went shopping for jackets together, my pocketbook would be in trouble.
Posted by: freecia at June 27, 2006 12:42 AMI think there's a thread there. You have an "off-kilter" sense of style (which is on-kilter to me), and the sweaters you knit are very fluid and organic in composition. I think the colors will work with the skirts and balance them. Go with it!
Posted by: Gina at June 27, 2006 7:39 AMhere's my take (because this looks familiar to me): your [beautiful] sweaters seem to be solid and "constructed" -- almost architectural, which to me is part of the appeal of really intricate cabling (i do a lot of that, too). your clothes, on the other hand, are very playful, lightweight, and mobile, with lots of interesting angles. i say this situation looks familiar, because i have the same issue: i have the most fun knitting sweaters that require me to pay close attention and figure things out, but i never end up wearing those sweaters much. the sweaters i knit, that i actually wear, are uniformly lightweight and simple, with almost nothing interesting about them but the yarn selection and the shaping. and they were generally pretty boring to make.
here's another thing: though i love to knit with colorful yarn, i generally wear mostly black. and i hate to knit with black yarn.
that's my arm-chair yarn-alysis. i'm probably completely wrong about your wardrobe issue, so feel free to ignore this entirely!
Posted by: lisa at June 27, 2006 9:20 AMI love every single piece of clothing you have in this post! Then again, your taste in knitting is so awesome that I knew your wardrobe had to be great, too, and it is.
Posted by: Crystal at June 28, 2006 11:25 AMmore power to ya, girl! :)
i should be following in your footsteps
Okay, I love Delph. Where can I find the pattern? And i'd wear any of those sweaters. Well, after October that is.
