It's all over but the finishing ...

tess4

I finished all of the edges on the Lace Leaf Baby Cardigan yesterday. I even finished the crocheted-on button bands, which you may or may not be able to tell are no longer there. I ripped them back off because I used too large of a crochet hook and the button bands were really long!

This color is really hard to get a good picture of, but the edges match almost perfectly with the teal that is in the main body of the sweater. Have I mentioned how much Cookie doesn't like the color of this sweater? Cookie, of all people, thinks it is too bright. I really like it. So there.

Now I need to get to a store and buy buttons. Or a zipper, if I decide that I'm still worried about buttons for a 6 month old. Any input from our faithful readers? Also, do babies have comparatively short arms? Because I don't think I would make a raglan for an adult where the sleeves were exactly the same length as the body of the sweater. Any thoughts on that (I just can't stop worrying about this sizing thing, can I)?

It came out very cute! I always like buttons for a baby sweater. There's so many choices for kids in buttons.

It's very cute, the hardest part may be picking out the buttons, there are just so many options it seems.

They do say no buttons for babies but I've bought commercial baby sweaters that have them. Just make them small enough to not choke the baby. I love the color, it's gorgeous!

It's gorgeous! I like the color too.

Yes, babies have long bodies and short arms. It looks right to me. I don't know what to tell you about the buttons. A zipper might be a wise choice.

It's gorgeous, and I love the color. It's the perfect color for baby boy or girl, so if the recipient ends up with a sibling of the opposite gender it'll still pass down.

On buttons... I usually use buttons. Any small button is a choking hazard - if it can fit in the mouth it's a risk. But if you sew it on REALLY well and make sure to point it out to the parents, I think you'll be fine.

I didn't put zipper anything on my munchkins until they could walk and handle themselves well. I was always afraid that they would mess with the zipper and pinch their skin. And my boys shirts always seem to be too long in the sleeve and not long enough in the body. But I think that sleeves the same length will work just fine.

It looks great! the proportions look fine as others have mentioned. Tell Cookie there is no such thing as too bright! haha

I love it! Have fun picking out buttons - for kid's stuff that is the best part.

Yes, babies do have relatively short arms and legs. Also large heads and long torsos. Not exactly the proportions you want as an adult. Great cardi. I do the same thing too before I give a baby sweater; I always wash it so I can make sure it looks OK and to give better washing instructions.

Gorgeous! I love it.

Yes, babies have surprisingly short arms. I was always sure the sweaters I knit for mine would be too short, but they always worked out perfectly.

I would go with buttons, and sew them on really well. Inspect them regularly for cracks and loose threads to be safe. I've purchased baby sweaters with buttons, so I'd think it would be okay.

K - I did not do buttons for the cardi for my son. I sewed in giant snaps. It was a lot of sewing, but should make for easier wear with a wriggly baby.
