I've been in a finishing UFO mood lately. There are so many projects to choose from, but these are the main contenders for old projects I need to start up again:
1. Secret Project #1 in Karabella Frost. Sigh. Let me tell you the long and horrifying story of my Karabella Frost yarn. This yarn has been an absolute pleasure to knit (I love the color, I love the feel of the yarn, and I love the way it looks), but alas it is dreadfully CURSED. You see, my first intention was to make a simple shaped v-neck sweater with a lace panel down the center. I even tried out a new scalloped edging because I was bored of ribbed or curled stockinette edgings and didn't want to do a hem either.
So this was attempt No. 1:
What's wrong with it, you ask? Well, I started the armholes a bit too soon, so I need to rip all the way back to the armholes and redo that part. I can't just undo from the top because that would make the neck more closed, and it looks better more open. But even worse, I've decided I don't like the edging at all and wish I'd done a hemmed edging or maybe even a garter-esque edging. But that would mean ripping out all the way back to the beginning... Which makes me sad. (No, I don't want to rip from the bottom. It's not the same.)
Instead, since I still had plenty of yarn, I decided I'd start a new sweater with the remaining yarn, and then begin ripping the first sweater once I needed the yarn in it to complete the new sweater. That way I wouldn't feel the defeat of ripping all the way back to nothing. There was an attempt No. 2 which was done back and forth on straight needles, but after 4 inches, I decided it would be better to knit in the round.
Attempt No. 3:
I was very hesitant about this stitch pattern a couple inches into it, because the Frost is a lovely smooth yarn that I think looks very good in stockinette. But after a few more inches, I am now enamoured by this stitch pattern. The problem? Let's take a closer look:
When switching from flat to circular needles, I paid less attention to how I was increasing/decreasing in pattern. So the ribbed side section is angled instead of straight. This means ripping all the way back to the ribbing. Again. AGGGGHHHHH!!!!
2. London Pride. I stopped the London Pride because of a horrible horrible mistake that will involve ripping out over 6000 stitches and picking up 800 of fine laceweight yarn.
3. An aran based off a pattern in Norsk Strikkedesign. I stopped this because I lost my notes on how I was going to modify it into a raglan instead of drop shoulder. I'd have to recalculate all of that. I'm up to the armholes now.
I'm psyched about another Delphine project, but I'm not going to start until I have either fixed my mistake in the London Pride, finished the Aran, or decided on which Karabella Frost design to do and finish it. What do you think?
I think you're in for a lot of work! Poor you-- isn't being a perfectionist exhausting?
My advice? Don't work with the cursed yarn yet, its got bad vibes.

Posted by: Abigail at January 9, 2006 2:12 PMJust wanted to let you know I love the Pomatomus sock pattern you did for Knitty! Finished 1 sock and 1/2 way done with second. Great pattern and really fun to do. Thanks!
Posted by: Anne at January 12, 2006 10:11 AMI haven't been up to much these days. Today was a loss. Nothing seems important. I've just been letting everything happen without me these days.
Posted by: Sten63397 at February 3, 2007 6:39 AMI just don't have much to say these days, but so it goes. Today was a total loss. I guess it doesn't bother me.
