Back to knitting

Thanks for all the congratulations! We spent the first few days figuring out all the arrangements, and I think I've got most of the details worked out except what I'll be knitting.

K (a bride's matron) and E (the matron of honor) will be knitting stoles! K is going to knit TWO stoles: a widened version of the Heartstrings Lead or Follow scarf pattern in laceweight mohair and Madli's shawl in Misti Baby Alpaca 2-ply. I'm not sure what E will be knitting, but it has to be a bigger gauge yarn on larger needles, since she's only just begun the knitting craze (we'll get her addicted, don't worry). So exciting! They'll be knitting grey stoles and wearing deep red dresses.

I am being forced to wear all white and even my stole has to be white according to J (a.k.a. Mr. Pants). To be honest, I've never wanted a wedding. I tried hard to push for elopement, but he insisted. Amusingly, the part that's exciting me the most is knitting a stole for it! I'm also toying with the idea of knitting a skirt (despite K and E's objections), but we'll see how far along with my stole I am in a few months. The wedding will be in May in Toronto, so that gives me a good six months.

So far I've knit bits and pieces of different stole patterns using different yarns and needle sizes to get a feel for what I want to do. I've learned that making mistakes in laceweight mohair sucks. Hard. I tried two of the lace patterns used in the Forest Path Stole and have decided that I don't particularly like purling 5 together, though it could be manageable. I actually like the fact that the stole is entrelac, so I could knit blocks at a time (easier for noticing mistakes as they happen). [K, you might want to reconsider Madli which involves purling SEVEN together.] All I've decided so far is not mohair. If I do a pattern I've already got, it will be the Forest Path Stole, though I may try making my own pattern. We'll see.

Too many options!

Oh yeah, and I'm up to the armhole shaping on one of the Butterfly sleeves. Sorry, no pictures. Next post!
