I'm disappointed in the latest Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album - "Howl". Even after a few initial listens, it really isn't growing on me. I think most of it has to do with the radical sonic change from the distortion and bombastic electric guitar of "Take Them On, On Your Own" to the far more subtle acoustic threads of "Howl". Granted, "Howl" is definitely more diverse in terms of instrumentation, but it just isn't as cachy or as accessible as "Take Them On, On Your Own". If some other group had put this out, I might have had a more charitable reaction, but I'm inclined to simply sell it off to someone that would be more appreciative of it.
